In this article, learn how to complete the setup of your A&D FX-300iN scale for use with Dutchie POS and how to use the scale at the register.

Dutchie POS

Set up and connect the scale

  1. Configure the scale to work with your Register:
    1. For the Dutchie Register terminal (Elo device), use this configuration.
    2. For all other devices, use the A&D factory default configuration.
  2. Connect your scale to the Register.

Enable restrict to scale weighing

The optional Restrict to scale weighing setting prevents users from manually altering the weight reading, providing a security measure to support accurate sales. To enable this setting:

  1. In the Dutchie POS Backoffice, navigate to Settings > Devices.
  2. On the Registers tab, select a register with a connected scale.
  3. Set Restrict to scale weighing to Yes.

Note that enabling this setting does not disable the weight override feature.

Set your weight override

Weight override is an optional feature that allows users to price bulk flower based on common weights (1g, 2g, 3.5g, etc.) even when the actual weight is slightly different (also known as "weigh heavy"). If weight override is not enabled, bulk flower is priced based on the actual weight. Contact Dutchie Support to have weight override enabled for your location.

When weight override is enabled, it's important to also set a Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold. This enforces a maximum difference between the actual weight and the weight override to prevent users from weighing excessive amounts or charging an artificially low price.

  1. Go to Settings > Location.
  2. Scroll down to the Defaults section.
  3. In the Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold field, enter an amount greater than 0 and select a unit of measure.

  4. Optionally, turn on Auto Adjust Weight Override. When enabled, if the weight of the product falls within the dispense weight vs. actual weight threshold, the item's price will be automatically adjusted accordingly.
  5. Click Save.

This threshold is not inclusive. For example, if you set the threshold to 0.2g, budtenders can enter an override that is less than 0.2g different from the actual weight, but not 0.2g or more.

Using the scale at the point of sale

  1. Add a bulk flower product to a cart.
  2. Scan or select the bulk flower product you want to weigh and then click the calculator button

  3. Place flower on the scale.
  4. The weight reading from the scale automatically appears in the Calculate weight window on the Register terminal.
    • If you enabled Restrict to scale weighing, once the weight reading stabilizes, the Weight field locks and can only be changed by adding or removing flower from the scale.
    • If the weight override feature is enabled and the weight is within the Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold, the Weight override field auto-populates accordingly (even if Restrict to scale weighing is also enabled).
    • If you enabled Auto Adjust Weight Override, the price is updated automatically.
    • If the weight is not within the set threshold, the Add button will be greyed out.

  5. Click Add.

Greenbits

You can also use this scale integration with the Greenbits Register application running on the Dutchie Register terminal hardware. If you're using Greenbits on an iPad, refer to the Integrated Scale and Weigh Station 2.0 documentation instead.

Set up the scale

  1. Configure your scale.
  2. Connect your scale to the Register terminal.
  3. In the Greenbits Back Office, go to Settings > Store Options
  4. Scroll to the Register Options section.
  5. Select Enable weigh station at all registers. You may need to sign out and sign back in to see the change at the Register.
  6. In the Register terminal, tap the menu icon.
  7. Go to Settings > Scale
  8. Select Serial Port 1.

Using the scale at the point of sale

  1. Add a weight-based flower product to a sale.
  2. Place flower on the scale.
  3. The weight reading from the scale automatically appears on the Register terminal. Tap the check mark to confirm the weight.

In Greenbits, you can manually enter a weight with or without a scale connected. Once you enter or change the weight, Greenbits ignores the scale input until you start a new sale.
