Specials & Offers (Minimum Spend & Items for a Price) - Taxes Included on Your Menu

You just built a "Minimum Spend" or "Items for a Price" Offer or Sale for your customers, but the discount isn't applying to shopping carts when your customer base meets the condition you set for the promotion in question. 

To review, the "Minimum Spend" condition allows you, the dispensary admin, to specify a minimum spend discount to a customer's cart in relation what the customer must spend in order to earn the corresponding reward. This condition will work with any product on the online menu, regardless of being included in a promotion or not.

The "Items for a Price" condition is the Total Price condition! This means that a customer can receive all of the items you specified in the conditions section as long as they cover the Total Price set by you in the "ALL ITEMS FOR" field.

Example (Minimum Spend)

Spend $250 and get $75 off your cart. 

 

Example (Items for a Price)

 

ALL ITEMS FOR: $X.XX

 

Taxes (Included On Menu)

Using the examples above, your customers start calling in and saying, "Hi, I added $250 worth of product but I'm not receiving a $75 discount when I go to checkout?" or "Hi, I added all these products, but the total isn't showing correctly at checkout as the special advertised."

 

It's important to remember in this scenario your dispensary's tax setup. Does your dispensary include taxes on the menu? If you aren't sure, you can check! To do so, go to your menu and click on any cannabis product. Under the "ADD TO CART" button, there will be a note stating, "*Cannabis tax included."

 

Why does this matter? For all promotions, the discount applied at checkout is directly tied to the "subtotal" (I.E. pre-tax) of the order.  When taxes are included on the menu, at checkout, your customer base is unable to view the pre-tax subtotal of their order at checkout.

 

Because of this, it is advised that you either stray away from using the "minimum spend" condition on the promote tool to reduce confusion and friction with your customer base. Or, if you do choose to utilize the "minimum spend" condition, please make use of the menu banner tool under the customize tab in your Dutchie admin.
