Specials and offers (Minimum Spend & Items for a Price) - Taxes included in your Dutchie Ecommerce menu

When setting up a "Minimum Spend" or "Items for a Price" promotion, you may encounter issues where the discount is not applying correctly to shopping carts, even though the conditions for the promotion are met.

This article only applies to operators not using Discount Sync with Dutchie POS.

If Discount Sync is enabled for your location, set up specials and offers as discounts in Dutchie POS instead of in Dutchie Ecommerce.

Minimum Spend Condition

The Minimum Spend condition allows dispensary administrators to specify a minimum order value required for a customer to receive a discount. This condition applies to any product in the online menu, regardless of whether the product is part of a promotion.

For example, a promotion could be set as follows:

  • Spend $250 and get $75 off the cart.

Items for a Price Condition

The Items for a Price condition is based on the total price of the items in the cart. Customers are eligible for the discount if their order meets the price you specify in the ALL ITEMS FOR field.

For example, a promotion could be set as:

  • ALL ITEMS FOR: $X.XX

Tax Considerations

When setting up promotions, it is important to consider your dispensary’s tax configuration. If taxes are included in the menu price, customers may experience discrepancies when checking out, as the discount is applied to the order subtotal (pre-tax).

To check if taxes are included in your menu prices, navigate to your online menu, select any cannabis product, and look for the note under the ADD TO CART button that reads: "Cannabis tax included."

If taxes are included in the price:

  • The subtotal displayed at checkout will include taxes, but the discount will be calculated based on the pre-tax subtotal.
  • Customers may report that the discount is not applying correctly or that the checkout total does not match the advertised promotion.

Recommended Solutions

To avoid confusion and ensure promotions work as expected:

  1. Avoid using the "Minimum Spend" condition if taxes are included on the menu, as this can create discrepancies between the displayed and actual totals.
  2. Utilize the Menu Banner Tool in the Dutchie admin dashboard to provide clear messaging to customers about the promotion and how taxes are applied.

By addressing these tax-related factors, you can help ensure a smoother promotion experience for your customers.
