Establish a Product naming convention
This article applies to Greenbits.
Create a standard naming convention before you receive your first Product! You may have tens of thousands of Products.
Consider what all of the products will look like in one list. Will you be able to scan that list quickly to find the Product you're looking for? Consider what search terms you will use when searching for a Product. Will what you search for return the Product you are expecting?
If you create a standard naming convention for your Products, you will be able to find Products easier and faster.
Here's our recommendation:
<Supplier Abbreviation> <Strain / Product Name> <Weight>
For example, for your smallest Phat Panda bag of Dutch Treat, you can use:
PP Dutch Treat 3.5g
If you follow this naming convention, your inventory lists will show all Products by one supplier together, and then all their products of the same brand/product name. Also, the list will be in order according to size.
Create a master list of all of your suppliers and the abbreviations that you want to use, both as a reminder to you and as a guide for those who receive inventory. Include an example of an item name that uses your naming convention correctly.
The keys to success are:
- Be consistent in the order of the items in name.
- Use the same abbreviations every time.
- Be specific so you can tell the difference between items in your inventory.
