What are Barcodes (SKUs) in Greenbits?
This article applies to Greenbits.
Barcodes (SKUs) have two purposes in Greenbits: it's the only tracking number for some items (depending on state and type of item) and it's used to generate barcodes for scanning at the Register.
A barcode (SKU) is a unique number that Greenbits uses to generate a barcode. You can print the barcode onto labels, and your budtenders can scan them at the Register. The barcode label connects to the barcode (SKU), and the barcode (SKU) connects to your Greenbits inventory.
A single barcode (SKU) can be "reused" (associated with multiple inventory Packages or Lots).
- When you receive new inventory, by default Greenbits assigns a new, unique barcode (SKU). Edit the Barcode (SKU) field if you want to reuse an existing barcode (SKU) from the same Product (such as a manufacturer barcode that's already on the packaging).
- When you sell this product at the Register, Greenbits will subtract the quantity from the Package or Lot with the earliest received date that has a positive quantity.
- If you're reusing barcodes (SKUs) across multiple Packages/Lots, it's important for budtenders to verify that the physical item they're selling is from the same Package/Lot that Greenbits is pulling from.
- You can make this easier by making sure you never have more than one Package/Lot marked For Sale for each barcode (SKU).
For states that track cannabis
- Each Package or Lot will have at least one barcode (SKU) to generate barcode labels. The barcode connects to the barcode (SKU), and the barcode (SKU) connects to the Package ID/Lot Number for reporting.
- If you convert or merge inventory, Packages and Lots can have multiple barcodes (SKUs).
- In addition to a barcode (SKU), Packages also have Package IDs, and Lots also have Lot Numbers.
For states that do not track cannabis yet
- A barcode (SKU) is a tracking number for an order on a manifest.
- When you receive a manifest, you'll assign barcode (SKUs) to orders of Products.
- As you sell inventory items from the barcode (SKU), Greenbits deducts quantity from the barcode (SKU).
For non-cannabis items in all states
- A barcode (SKU) is a tracking number for an order on a manifest.
- When you receive a manifest, you'll assign barcodes (SKUs) to orders of non-cannabis Products.
- As you sell inventory items from the barcode (SKU), Greenbits deducts quantity from the barcode (SKU).
