Manage Vendors, Brands, and Strains in Greenbits
This article applies to Greenbits.
Vendor, Brand, and Strain are optional information that you can add to Products. Their primary functions are:
- Inventory organization and searchability: On the Products page, set filters based on Vendor, Brand, or Strain to quickly find matching items.
- Auto-suggest: Once you've added Vendors, Brands, and Strains you'll see them as auto-suggestions in the appropriate fields when you start typing, saving you data-entry time later.
- Menu Feeds: If you prefer not to list products on your integrated menus based on the Name field in Greenbits, alternatively list them by Brand and/or Strain and keep your internal naming conventions hidden.
- Discount Plans: Create discounts that apply only to specific Brands.
Create Vendors, Brands, and Strains
If you have Create brands, Create strains, and Create suppliers permissions, you can create new Vendors, Brands, and Strains by filling in the fields on the Product Details tab. If you have the Manage Account Wide Products permission, when you add a brand, strain, or vendor to any of your locations, it’s shared across all of your locations. If you don't have these permissions, you can still enter and choose from existing Vendors, Brands, and Strains.
Anything you enter in these fields is automatically saved for future use. For instance, if you create another product from the Brand "Frosty", start typing the name and Greenbits will suggest matching Brands:
Select the appropriate suggestion with your mouse, or press Tab on your keyboard to select the top suggestion.
Vendor auto-suggestions are also shown when receiving a manifest.
Manage Vendors, Brands, and Strains
Managing Vendors, Brands, and Strains requires several permissions in the Manage Inventory permissions group.
To view the full lists of all your Vendors, Brands, and Strains, select the desired button on the left-side menu in the Inventory section of Back Office.
You can delete Vendors, Brands, and Strains to keep them from being auto-suggested in the future, but only if there are no Products assigned to them.
To identify Products that are assigned to unneeded or duplicate Vendors, Brands, or Strains:
- From the Products page, apply a Vendor, Brand, or Strain filter and search the Vendor, Brand, or Strain you want to delete.
- For each matching Product, delete or update the Vendor, Brand, or Strain fields accordingly.
- Go to the Vendor, Brand, or Strain menu, select the item you want to remove.
- Select Delete.
Use Brands and Strains in Menu Feeds
When creating new Products, taking a little bit of extra time to consistently fill in Brands and Strains will pay off later when you set up your Menu Feeds.
For example, let's say we have 1-gram pre-packs of Girl Scout Cookies from Greenbits Farms. For internal organization purposes, and to keep product names short, you've applied a consistent naming convention and therefore this product's Name is "GBF GSC 1G Pre-pack".
Of course, we don't want to list this name on an integrated menu since it won't make much sense to the average customer.
When setting up a Menu Feed, select a Product Name Format that includes {{strain}} and/or {{brand}}.
This automatically replaces "GBF GSC 1G Pre-pack" with "Girl Scout Cookies by Greenbits Farms" in your Menu Feed.
Use Brands in Discount Plans
You can create Discount Plans that only work with products of a specific Brand. Set a Condition for Brand, then enter the Brand name.
