HID mode (also known as keyboard mode) is the default setting for the Socket Mobile scanner. When used for scanning items in the Greenbits Register app, the scanner is set to iOS mode, though for inventory auditing purposes we'll need to reset the scanner to HID mode.

Note: with the scanner paired in HID mode, your iPad will not automatically display the on-screen keyboard. To toggle the keyboard on and off, double-tap the power button on the scanner.

1. If the device is already paired to your iPad, un-pair it

The scanner mode cannot be changed while it's paired with any device.

In your iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the "i" icon on the far right, then Forget this device.

Next, press and hold both buttons on the scanner. You should hear multiple beeps, and the scanner will turn off.

2. Reset the scanner to factory defaults

Turn the scanner back on, then scan this barcode:

This barcode can be scanned from a computer or iPad screen, though you may need to vary the distance and angle from which you scan. It often helps to scan 1-2 feet away from the screen.

When scanned successfully, the scanner will beep several times and turn off.

3. Re-pair the scanner to the iPad

Turn the scanner back on, and go back to Settings > Bluetooth. Tap the device to connect.

Note: the device may initially show up as "Keyboard" - this is normal in HID mode, as the iPad interprets the device as a Bluetooth keyboard.

Alternatively, you may pair the scanner with any other device that you want to use for the audit process.

This can be another type of tablet or a computer - any device with Bluetooth capability on which you can create and edit a word processing document.

4. Scan your items

Continue with the steps for auditing unit-based inventory.

5. Revert to iOS mode

When you've completed the audit, follow these steps to set your scanner back to iOS mode for use with the Register app.
