CA: Check in customers using a Magtek Magstripe reader
This article applies to Greenbits.
- This is currently available for stores in California only.
- You must use Google Chrome.
- This works for check in from the Back Office only. You cannot check someone in at the Register using the Magstripe.
When you use a Magtek Magstripe reader to check in customers, Greenbits automatically adds information stored in their ID to the customer's profile in the Back Office. You can also use the Magtek Magstripe reader to find the customer's profile so you can check them in with a few steps.
Set up the Magtek Magstripe reader
- Connect the device to a USB port on any Mac computer, or a PC running Windows 10.
- If prompted to install a USB driver, select OK and install. This may also happen automatically, or not at all, depending on the computer.
Check in existing customers
If a customer is already in your Greenbits Back Office, you can find their profile and check them in quickly using the Magtek Magstripe reader.
- Using Google Chrome, log in to the Back Office and go to the Customers page.
- Swipe the customer’s ID with the Magtek Magstripe reader.
The ID number appears in the search field and the customer's profile appears. - Select Check in.
Check in new customers
You can add a new customer to the Back Office and check them in at the same time by using the Magtek Magstripe reader.
- Using Google Chrome, log in to the Back Office and go to the Customers page.
- Select Add Person.
- Swipe the customer’s ID using the Magtek Magstripe reader.
The customer's information populates into the form in all caps, since that is how it is stored on your ID. - Select Save to save the new customer.
- Select Check in.
Add information automatically to an existing customer
You can update an existing customer's profile with information from their ID by using the Magtek Magstripe reader.
- Using Google Chrome, log in to the Back Office and go to the Customers page.
- Search for and select a customer.
- Swipe the customer’s ID using the Magtek Magstripe reader.
If there are empty fields in that customer's profile that correspond to information on their ID, those fields are automatically filled in. - Select Save to save the updated customer information.
- Select Check in.
