Nevada: Sell dual-license (med/rec) products to patients - Greenbits
This article applies to Greenbits.
This information currently applies to Greenbits customers in Nevada.
If you sell dual-license (med/rec) products to patients, you must receive and report sales of those products to your state medical license. In order to stay compliant, you should keep your rec products separate from your med products.
This affects many areas of your business:
- Your Greenbits license and location
- How you display products in your store
- How you check in customers to queues
- Which register you use to ring sales for products
- How you receive Packages in Metrc
- How you label products for patients
Keep rec products separate from med products
The best practice for keeping rec and med products separate is to order them in separate Packages and receive them to the appropriate license in Metrc:
- In Greenbits Back Office, run reports to figure out how much to order for patients and how much to order for customers:
- Based on the information from those reports, order separate Packages for patients and rec customers, even if you order the same kind of product for both.
Example: If you typically sell one pound of Grape Kush flower to patients and two pounds to rec customers per month, order one pound through your state med license and two pounds through your state rec license. - In Metrc, receive Packages for patients through your state med license and Packages for rec customers through your state rec license.
- For medical products, add an M or MED to the logo on the label.
If you receive products through your rec license that you want to sell to patients, split the Package in Greenbits and then transfer that Package to your medical license in Metrc.

What are dual-license (med/rec) products?
- They are products that you could sell to either a recreational customer or a patient.
- High-THC, medical-only products are not dual-license products. You can sell them to patients only.
I received product on my rec license, and I want to sell it to patients. What do I do now?
If you want to change recreational product into medical product, split the Package in Greenbits and transfer the Package in Metrc.
Warning: This transfer is one-way only in Metrc. If you transfer products to your med license, you cannot transfer products back to your rec license. To avoid transferring more than you can sell to patients, split and transfer small amounts at a time.
- In the Back Office for your recreational license, split the portion of the Package that you want to sell to patients to another RFID tag.
- Still in Greenbits Back Office, mark that split-off portion as Not for Sale.
- Wait for the Package to show up as split in Metrc.
- In Metrc, transfer the split-off portion to your medical license.
- Print new barcode labels for the split-off portion.
- Separate the medical products from the recreational products.
If a patient wants to purchase medical and recreational products, ring the patient up twice. Sell the recreational product through your recreational register and sell the medical product through your medical register.
How does this affect my Greenbits license?
- A single store has a Greenbits license for recreational sales and a Greenbits license for medical sales.
- Technically, this appears as two Greenbits locations: one location (and Greenbits license) for your recreational sales and one location (and Greenbits license) for your medical sales.
- Your state medical license is connected to one Greenbits license and your state recreational license is connected to your other Greenbits license.
How does this affect my registers?
You have separate registers for recreational and medical sales.
How do I tell the difference between med and rec products?
Here are some ways to make sure you and your customers can easily tell the difference between recreational and medical products.
- For medical products, add an M or MED to the logo on the label.
- Display your medical and recreational products in different parts of your store. A best practice is to keep medical products behind the counter.
How do I check in customers and patients?
You have two options:
- Two computers and two check-in lines: If your store has a steady flow of patients and enough room, you can use a second computer to check in patients.
-
Two browser windows on the same computer: If you don't have many patients or room for a second computer, you can open two browser windows on the same computer.
- In a Chrome browser, open the Greenbits Back Office that is connected to your state recreational license.
- From the same Chrome browser, open a new window in Incognito mode.
- In the Incognito window, open the Greenbits Back Office that is connected to your state medical license.
- To make it easy to switch between checking in recreational customers and patients, set the windows side-by-side on your screen. The medical check-in window will be a darker color than the recreational window.
- Ask customers if they are patients when they enter your store. If they are, check them in through the browser for your state medical license. If not, check them in through the browser for your state recreational license.
- Direct patients to the part of your store that has medical products (and your medical register).
