When should I create Barcodes (SKUs) and print barcodes?
This article applies to Greenbits.
When you receive inventory, you can create barcodes (SKUs) on the manifest for the items you receive. Greenbits uses the barcode (SKU) to generate a barcode that you can print onto labels and scan at the Register. The barcode label connects to the barcode (SKU), which connects to your Greenbits inventory.
For cannabis inventory in Metrc states
- Greenbits automatically enters the Package ID into the Barcode (SKU) field.
- Scanners can't read Package IDs as barcodes, so be sure to either replace the Package ID with a new, generated barcode (SKU), or you can reuse an existing barcode (SKU) from a previous inventory intake of the same Product (such as manufacturer barcodes that are already on the packaging), then print barcode labels.
- If you reuse an existing barcode (SKU), it's important for budtenders to verify that the physical item they're selling is from the same package that Greenbits is pulling from.
- You can make this easier by making sure you never have more than one Package/Lot marked For Sale for each barcode (SKU).
- Tip: Select Create New Barcodes (SKU)s at the top of the manifest page to automatically assign barcodes (SKUs) for each item on your manifest at once.
For cannabis inventory in Washington
- Greenbits automatically enters the Lot Number into the Barcode (SKU) field.
- If you receive a Lot with a barcode (SKU) that you have used previously, this is okay. Barcodes (SKUs) can be reused, so long as they are always assigned to the same Products.
- If your items don't have barcodes, select the barcode button on the manifest to print barcodes labels.
- If the inventory already has a barcode, test the barcode using an app or by placing your cursor into the Barcode (SKU) field and scanning it with a barcode scanner. If the barcode scan matches the Lot Number, you do not need to create barcodes (SKUs) or print barcode labels. You can use the one already on the item.
- If you test the barcode and it does not match the Lot Number, enter the full Lot Number in the Barcode (SKU) field on the manifest and print barcode labels.
- Short identifiers will not scan properly.
For cannabis inventory in untracked states
- If you're receiving inventory that you've received before, Greenbits automatically enters the same barcode (SKU) from the last time you received it. Print barcode labels from the manifest. If the Wholesale Cost has changed, Greenbits calculates a weighted average cost.
- If you are receiving new inventory and it doesn't have a barcode label, create a barcode (SKU) and print barcode labels from the manifest.
- If the inventory has a barcode label, place your cursor in the Barcode (SKU) field and scan the barcode. Print barcode labels.
- Tip: Select Create New Barcodes (SKUs) at the top of the manifest page to automatically assign barcodes (SKUs) for each item on your manifest at once.
For non-cannabis inventory
- If you're receiving inventory that you've received before, Greenbits automatically enters the same barcode (SKU) from the last time you received it. Print barcode labels from the manifest.
- If you are receiving inventory and it doesn't have a barcode label, create a barcode (SKU) and print barcode labels from the manifest.
- If the non-cannabis inventory has a barcode label, place your cursor in the Barcode (SKU) field and scan the barcode. Print barcode labels.
