Certain products that are certified by the Washington state Department of Health to meet certain testing and packaging standards require a separate tax setup to exempt qualifying patients from the state cannabis excise tax. Here's how to set up these DoH-certified products in Greenbits so they are tax-exempt for patients but still taxable for recreational customers.
Create new product types and assign DoH-certified products
- Create new product types for DoH-certified products. For example, DoH Concentrates or DoH Edibles in addition to your regular product types for Concentrates and Edibles.
- Create DoH-certified products and assign them to your new DoH product types, or reassign existing products to DoH product types
Update your cannabis excise tax applicability
- In the Back Office, select the Settings gear and then Taxes.
- Select your state cannabis excise tax.
- In the Product Types & Customer Groups grid, check the boxes in the Customer column for each of your new DoH product types, leaving the Patient boxes unchecked for these product types.
- Click Save. You do not need to make any changes to the tax rate or schedule.
