Dutchie POS offers a set of optional features you can enable to optimize your registers for anonymous recreational transactions. These features also allow you to compliantly process medical transactions without saving patients' personal information.

This article is tailored to dispensaries migrating to Dutchie POS from Greenbits, especially those operating in Oregon or other markets that limit or prohibit the collection of customers’ personal information.

Verify that anonymous recreation transactions are enabled for your location

In the Dutchie Register, select the guest list from the left-side menu. You should see an Anonymous Guest button at the top:

If you don’t see this button, contact Dutchie Support and ask them to enable anonymous recreational transactions.

Recommended settings

In the Dutchie Backoffice, go to Settings > Location set and configure the following settings:

Setting Recommendation Notes
Require Birthdate Check on Checkin OFF

Users must manually enter the customer’s birthdate before starting a transaction.

You may turn this ON if you want staff to verify age twice, but Require Birthdate Check on Checkout more closely matches Greenbits functionality.

Require Birthdate Check on Checkout ON Users must manually enter the customer’s birthdate before they can select Checkout.
Auto check in with ID scan OFF Prompts the user to save customer information upon scanning an ID.
Auto create profile with ID scan OFF Automatically saves customer information upon scanning an ID.
Start new cart after checkout ON Automatically opens a new cart after each transaction instead of taking you back to the guest list. You can still access the guest list from the left-side menu as needed.
Collect demographic data about anonymous customer OFF Prompts users to enter general information such as a customer’s date of birth, gender, and zip code

Recreational workflow

Start a transaction by selecting the cart icon or Anonymous Guest.

Scan or search for items to add to the cart. Once you’ve added at least one item, the order is saved, and a system-generated customer number is assigned to the cart.

If you navigate away from the cart, you can reopen it by selecting it from the guest list.

Note that the customer number and order number are appended to the URL, which allows you to refresh the page without being returned to the guest list or share the URL and open it on another register.

With Require Birthdate Check on Checkout turned on, a Verify birthdate button is located at the bottom right:

When you’re finished adding items, select Verify birthdate and enter the customer’s date of birth. Once verified, the button changes to Checkout:

Complete checkout by taking payment, then select Done. If Start new cart after checkout is turned on, a new cart opens automatically. Otherwise, you’re returned to the guest list.

Medical workflow

Create customer profiles for patients. Similar to Greenbits, you can create patient profiles with only a medical ID number and no other personal details. Dutchie POS allows you to configure which customer fields are shown, hidden, or required.

To start a medical transaction, select the guest list or customers icon on the left-side menu:

Search for the patient’s medical ID number, then select Check in to add them to the guest list or Create order to go straight to a new cart.

In some states, you can also select Scan ID from the guest list and scan the barcode on the patient’s medical ID card to bring up their profile.

Patients are identified in the cart and guest list by their medical ID number instead of a system-generated customer number. If you add a name to a patient profile, it will also appear just above the medical ID number.

If you already started an anonymous cart without assigning a patient, you can also do so from the cart by selecting the add customer icon.
