Metrc migration step-by-step guide
Things to consider
- You must enable the Metrc integration in Dutchie POS to perform certain tasks in this article.
- To best perform the actions in this article, log into Dutchie POS and Metrc systems in separate tabs or windows.
- Licensees who are vertically integrated and approved for adult-use cultivation and adult-use retail sales will receive two Metrc licenses: one for retail and one for cultivation.
- A Metrc retail license will be permitted to sell both adult-use and medical product from a single Metrc license. A Metrc retail licensee must order both medical and adult-use Metrc tags to differentiate their products.
- Rooms are called Locations in Metrc.
Integrating your Dutchie POS system with Metrc will prepare you for seed-to-sale traceability. The following sections detail how to integrate Dutchie POS with Metrc and to perform specific functions between the two systems:
- Enable Metrc in Dutchie POS.
- Build out rooms in Dutchie POS (Locations)
- Create and edit Product Catalog in Dutchie POS
- Manifest products into Metrc
- Tag products in Metrc
- Receive inventory in Dutchie POS
Enable Metrc integration in Dutchie POS
- In Dutchie POS go to Settings > Integrations.
- Select Metrc.
- Click the Settings tab.
- From the Settings tab, change the Enable dropdown to Yes.
-
Enter the API Key in the API Key field, and enter your facility license number in the License # field.
Note: Your API Key is found in Metrc. - Click Update to save your settings.
- Click the Validate Key tab to ensure your items are successfully validated.
Notes
- The remainder of the settings will auto-populate based on what you need to work with Metrc.
- You should ignore the failed Master LL Key statuses. If you only see one Success status or no Success statuses, make sure your API Key and License # are correct on the Settings tab.
Build out rooms in Dutchie POS (Locations)
- From the Dutchie POS side navigation go to Settings > Rooms.
- Select a Location Type for each room that has inventory.
- Click Update to save your Location Type settings.
Notes
- In a Retail environment, your Location Type is Default Location Type. If you are in a Cultivation environment your Location Type is Indoor Facility or Outdoor Facility.
- Your Room name and Location name in Metrc must match identically.
- Once you have saved your settings they are automatically transferred to Metrc.
Creating and edit Product Catalog in Dutchie POS
- From the Dutchie POS side navigation go to Products > Catalog.
-
Select the items you want to edit. Selecting multiple items will allow you to perform bulk actions.
Note: Dutchie POS recommends tagging products by Vendor and Room. - From the Bulk actions dropdown, select Bulk edit Product details.
-
Select the categories you need to bulk edit by adding fields.
Note: Every medicated product will have the External Category field and the Sync to Metrc Item field set to Yes. - Click Save.
Important
-
You will always edit the External Category and Sync to Metrc Item fields. You will also need to edit any additional field depending on the External Category you select.
For example: If your External Category is edibles, you need to have an ingredient to build it out in Metrc, therefore, you need to bulk edit the Ingredients field. - External Categories have to be weight-based.
- Since a Metrc license will allow both medical and retail sales on the same license, as a best practice, it is advised that you also utilize a naming convention in your Dutchie POS catalog that indicates “medical” or “rec” (or something similar) to differentiate the two types of product in the systems. The naming conventions used in the Dutchie POS catalog will become the Item names in Metrc.
Manifest products into Metrc
- From the Dutchie POS side navigation go to Products > Manifest.
- Click the Metrc Onboarding tab.
- Click the + button to create a new Manifest.
- Complete the required fields in the Create Manifest window.

Note: Auto-assign only works for one room. Therefore, if you are assigning packages to multiple rooms it has to be done manually.
Receive inventory in Dutchie POS
- In Dutchie POS go to Products > Inventory.
- Click the Receive Inventory button.
- Under Pending Transfers, select the manifest you created in Metrc.
-
Enter the Vendor and Room your items were assigned to in the Vendor and Room fields.
Note: If you did not filter your products by vendor and room when moving them to Metrc, you will need to go into each item individually and assign a vendor and room. - Click on each of your products to verify the Package ID, External Package ID, and Batch ID.
Important
Package ID, External Package ID, Batch ID
- Your External Package ID is your Metrc tag or RFID tag. When you move your products back into Dutchie POS, the External Package ID field will be the same as the Package ID.
- If you already have your products barcoded and want to use your own SKU number, you will need to remove the Package ID and replace it with your SKU number. If you have a batch associated with a particular product, you will need to enter the correct Batch number to get your test results.
- Newly created manifest can take time to show up. Refresh your browser or give Metrc a moment to catch up if your manifest isn’t available in Dutchie POS.
- If you have red exclamation marks beside products that means your products need to be assigned a Vendor and Room.
