Dutchie POS | Dutchie E-Commerce - Sync discounts from Dutchie POS

Full-stack customers can use our Discount Sync feature to create discounts in Dutchie POS and sync them to Dutchie E-Commerce.

Eligible discounts automatically push from Dutchie POS to Dutchie E-Commerce and no longer need to be set up on both platforms.

Which Discounts Sync?

Discount Sync works with Sales and Offers:

  • Sale ~ % or $ off discount (e.g., 15% off).
  • Offer ~ conditional reward offering (e.g., buy 2 get 1 free).
  • Discounts with application thresholds are considered Offers.
  • Discount Sync works with most discount restriction types in Dutchie POS. Discounts in Dutchie POS can be configured to include or exclude products that are assigned to a pricing tier; however, this feature is not supported for discount sync to Dutchie E-Commerce.

Additional configuration requirements exist for discounts in Dutchie POS to successfully sync to Dutchie E-Commerce. See Create a Sale or an Offer.

Note that Dutchie E-Commerce and Dutchie POS use different terminology to refer to similar concepts:

Dutchie E-Commerce term/concept Equivalent term/concept in Dutchie POS
Sale Simple discount where specific items are marked down by a dollar amount or percentage.
Offer Bundled discount, such as "buy x, get y," where the customer's order needs to meet certain conditions to get a discount or free item.

Enable Discount Sync

Chain specials are not compatible with Discount Sync. Before enabling Discount Sync, end any active chain specials by setting their end dates in the past. 

If chain specials and Discount Sync are active at the same time, chain specials will appear on your menu but will not be honored in the cart.

  1. In Dutchie E-Commerce admin, go to Settings > Integrations > Dutchie POS > Settings.
  2. Switch on the toggle for Discounts Sync.

Set up syncable discounts in Dutchie POS

Go to Marketing > Discounts and click Create discount. Dutchie's Discount Wizard walks you through each step of the discount setup process.

Note, however, that Discount Sync is not supported for all discount configurations:

  • Application method: Only Automatic discounts appear in Dutchie E-Commerce.
    • Manual discounts only appear in Dutchie POS and must by manually applied by an employee.
    • Code discounts are reflected only after a customer enters the required code at checkout.
    • Loyalty discounts can be selected at checkout only if the customer has enrolled in your loyalty program and has enough points for the discount.
  • Discounts with customer-based conditions (first time customer, limit per customer, customer segment or customer group conditions, etc.) will only appear on Dutchie E-Commerce for logged-in customers
  • Available online: Be sure to select Yes if you want the discount to appear on Dutchie E-Commerce.
  • Discounts with conditions or requirements based on any of the following will not appear on Dutchie E-Commerce:
    • Pricing tiers
    • Order type (curbside, delivery, in-store, etc.)
  • Discounts using any of these settings/options will not appear on Dutchie E-Commerce:
    • "Price to cost plus percent"
    • "Include non-cannabis items" set to No.
  • Discounts with conditions based on Smart Tags are not supported through the Dutchie + API

Reorder and customize menu design in Dutchie POS

With Discount Sync enabled, the customization options from the Promote page of Dutchie E-Commerce Admin are managed in Dutchie POS under Marketing > Discounts. You’ll see an All discounts tab, which shows all discounts available in Dutchie POS, and an Available on E-Commerce tab, which only shows discounts synced to Dutchie E-Commerce.

To change the order in which discounts appear in Dutchie E-Commerce:

  • Click Reorder and then click and drag discounts.
  • Or, click the pencil icon in the Order column to enter an order value directly instead of clicking and dragging.
  • Multiple discounts can use the same order value, which will group them together in the specials list on Dutchie E-Commerce.

All discounts set to Available online will have a new Customize menu design option under the ellipsis menu that will allow you to change and preview a discount’s E-Commerce display name, description, and image, all without leaving the Backoffice.

Experience in Dutchie E-Commerce

After your discounts are successfully set up in Dutchie POS they generally sync over to Dutchie E-Commerce immediately, but can take up to 10 minutes.

Once synced, products will automatically be discounted on your E-Commerce menu for any created Sales.

Note: When Discount Sync is enabled in Dutchie, any existing Sales you are running in Dutchie are automatically expired. This is to prevent a double discounting situation that would present if live Sales were migrated over from Dutchie POS. After Discount Sync is enabled, all Specials need to be created and managed within Dutchie POS (which will auto-sync to Dutchie E-Commerce).

With Discount Sync enabled, menu design features are moved into Dutchie POS under Marketing > Discounts, and the Promote page in Dutchie E-Commerce instead has a View Menu Design option that displays the configuration from Dutchie POS.

Discount Sync Troubleshooting

“My special / discount isn’t automatically syncing from Dutchie POS to E-Commerce.”

Check the discount setup to ensure the affected discount has the following configurations:

  • Application method is set to Automatic
  • Available online field is set to Yes

All other discounts will only appear in Dutchie POS. Code discounts will be reflected in checkout only after a customer enters a valid code.

Discounts based on tags may take up to an hour to be fully functional in Dutchie E-Commerce because the discount itself and the associated tags may sync at different times. Other discounts typically sync to Dutchie E-Commerce instantly but may take up to 10 minutes.

“My discount is incorrectly applying to my entire menu.”

Update your discount in Dutchie POS by adding Requirements and/or defining eligible products. Automatic discounts with no defined requirements, restrictions, or constraints will apply to your entire menu.

“A past special is still showing on my website, but I don’t see it under the Promote tab.”

Log into Dutchie Backoffice to update it there and use Discount Sync.

“Do I need to do anything in Dutchie E-Commerce after I create a discount in Dutchie POS?”

Most discounts can now be fully managed in Dutchie POS with no action needed in Dutchie E-Commerce.

However, the setting to include non-cannabis items and restrictions based on pricing tiers must still be manually managed in Dutchie E-Commerce.

“My stacking settings aren’t working correctly.”

Discount Sync stacking settings override E-Commerce stacking settings.

“Can I change the display order of my specials?”

Navigate to PromoteReorder Modedrag each Sale/Offer card to the desired ranking position click Save. In case of rank conflicts, cards will default to display in order of expiration date.

“Why is the sale I built in the Backoffice not displaying on my Dutchie E-Commerce menu?”

At this time, "Include non-cannabis items" must be set to Yes for discount sync promotions to populate on the E-Commerce menu. 

“Split menu causing medical authentication errors when syncing discounts”

This is likely due to medical integration authentication failure, blocking the entire discount sync pipeline. Dual integration locations require both medical + recreational sync success. Disabling medical discount sync alone is ineffective; discount sync enablement applies at the dispensary level for both integrations. To fix this, remove the medical menu integration and re-syncing with only the recreational menu, restoring discount sync functionality.
