Customize package ID, batch ID, and SKU formats in Dutchie POS

Learn methods to customize package IDs, batch IDs, and SKU formats for different markets in Dutchie POS.

In most markets, package IDs and batch IDs are generated by an official traceability system like Metrc or BioTrack. Operators in other markets, however, can customize package ID and batch ID formats in Dutchie POS. Additionally, operators in any market can customize their SKU formats, since SKUs are only used in Dutchie POS.

This feature is not enabled by default. Contact Dutchie Support to have it enabled for your location.

Configure formats

  1. Go to Products > Configure > Formats.
  2. Select which Format you want to configure (Package ID, SKU, or Batch ID) from the dropdown.
  3. Select the applicable Category for this format. You can create a separate custom format for each of your product categories, as well as a default format that will apply to any product categories that don't have a specified format.
  4. Formats are based on a combination of variables (or “tokens”) such as date, strain, or SKU, combined with an automatically generated 4-digit sequence that makes each identifier unique. Click any combination of tokens in any order to populate them in the Format field.
    • If you're configuring a format for a non-cannabis category or cannabis items such as edibles that may not be strain-specific, don’t include {strain} or {dailyStrainSeq:D4}.
    • You must include at least one of the 4-digit sequence tokens. The Save button will be greyed out until you add a 4-digit sequence.
  5. Optionally, you can edit the Format field to add static characters or insert spaces, hyphens, underscores, etc., to separate the token values.
  6. The Output field shows an example identifier based on your selections. Note that the {strain} and {vendor} tokens will use abbreviations instead of the full strain or vendor name. If you use these tokens in any of your formats, make sure you have the Abbreviation fields filled in for each of your strains and vendors under Products > Strains and Products > Vendors.

  7. Click Save when you’re finished.

Apply formats 

Dutchie POS generates IDs based on your configured formats when you click Generate on:

  • The Package ID field when adding an item to a receive.

  • The Batch name field when creating or editing a batch in the Cultivation module.
