Overview of grams/concentration and flower equivalent fields in Dutchie POS

Learn how to use Dutchie POS to configure the Grams/concentration (G/C) field to track packaged items that are sold as units but tracked in grams, and configure flower equivalents to ensure purchase limits and patient allotments are correctly enforced for non-flower products.

Things to know

  • The Grams/concentration field is used to specify the per-unit weight for products that are packaged and sold in units but tracked in grams. For example, 1 unit of pre-packaged flower = 1 gram.
  • Flower equivalent is used in certain states to define an equivalent amount of flower for non-flower products. These equivalencies vary from state to state. For example, a state may define 100 mg of THC in an edible as being equivalent to 5 grams of flower for purchase limit purposes.
  • Dutchie POS uses the Flower equivalent to enforce purchase limits and allotments. If no flower equivalent is entered, the system instead uses the Grams/concentration value, which is pushed to Metrc as package weight. Note that some states use Metrc allotment checks instead of the user-configured purchase limits in Dutchie POS.
  • When Metrc allotment checks are enabled, the Use Dutchie Purchase Limits for Types setting allows you to specify which customer types use Dutchie purchase limits vs. which ones use Metrc allotment checks. Find it under Settings > Integrations > Metrc > Settings tab (Enable Allotment Check must also be enabled).
  • Some states use different flower equivalent calculations for patients and adult-use customers. Contact Dutchie Support to enable separate flower equivalent fields for these customer types.

Field configuration

Grams/concentration is always required for cannabis products, regardless of field configuration.

Flower equivalent can be configured as Hide, Show, or Required if Cannabis. Go to Products > Configure > Fields to view or edit your configuration for flower equivalent fields. There are separate flower equivalent field settings for the Receive Inventory, Package Detail, and Product Catalog sections.

If your state does not use flower equivalents, set this field to Hide.

Enter Grams/concentration or Flower equivalent

You can define standard calculations for flower equivalency based on purchase limit category. This allows Dutchie POS to calculate and fill in flower equivalency values for you automatically.

When you receive inventory

As a best practice, be sure to enter these values every time you receive new inventory. If the flower equivalent is not applicable, leave it blank.

  1. On the Receive Inventory screen, click Add item.
  2. Select the Catalog product that you’re receiving inventory for.
    • For flower products, enter the total cannabis weight (in grams) in the Grams/concentration field. If you’ve made Flower equivalent a required field, enter the same value there. Otherwise, leave it blank.
    • For non-flower products, fill in the Flower equivalent field based on the calculations outlined below. You can enter the product’s total weight per unit in the Grams/concentration field, though this isn’t required for patient allotment purposes.

  3. Click Save package.

After you receive inventory

You can also add or edit these values on inventory you’ve already received:

  1. Go to Products > Inventory.
  2. Select an item from the table.
  3. Scroll down to the Weights section to add or edit Grams per concentration and/or Flower equivalency.

Optional: On Catalog products

Depending on your field configuration, you may also have these fields at the product level (Products > Catalog > Select a product > Details tab). The values you enter in these product-level fields will auto-populate at the inventory level.

Different packages of the same product may have different THC content. The inventory-level value is what is used to verify patient allotments, so it’s important to verify the grams/concentration and/or correctly calculate the flower equivalent for each new package you receive.

The grams/concentration value at the Product Catalog level is also used when converting or creating packages. For example:

  • A catalog product for a pre-pack has a grams/concentration entry of 3.5g.
  • When converting or creating packages for this product and you enter a quantity of 100, the system auto-calculates that you’re pulling 350g from the bulk flower package. Or, if pulling 1000g from bulk and creating three equal quantity-based packages, it auto-calculates that you can get 95 units per package (95 units x 3.5 grams per unit x 3 packages = 997.5g).
  • In Location settings, the Default conversion multiplier is set to grams/concentration by default, though you can also change this to flower equivalent or net weight instead.
