Merchants should consult their own tax, legal and compliance advisors to determine how best to configure Dutchie compliance settings and, in general, how best to operate within the cannabis industry.
Based on our current interpretation of guidance released by the MCA, the Dutchie team has determined the following calculations for Flower equivalency regarding edible and vaporizer products.
The MCA has defined combined limits of:
- 1.5 oz Flower
- 12g Concentrate Vapes
- 750mg Edibles
To calculate our equivalencies, we first must put all of these limits in the same unit of measure (grams)
- 1.5 Oz = 42.51g (Flower)
- 12 g = 12 g (Concentrate / Vape)
- 750mg = .75 g (Edible / THC)
To calculate our flower equivalency, and understand how many grams of flower are equal to 1 gram of another product, we simply divide our Flower limit (42.51g) by the grams limit of our other product type.
For concentrates:
42.51g / 12g = 3.5425.
For calculation and reporting purposes, we round this to 3.54, so 1 gram of concentrate is equal to 3.54 grams of flower. The MCA has stated that vape cartridges will use the same calculation limit as traditional concentrate products, so this is the value that can be used for a 1g Vape.
For smaller vape products, we can cut that value in half:
3.54 / 2 = 1.77
For Edible products:
42.51g / .75g = 56.68
Now, because retailers are prohibited from selling more than 100mg of THC per package, we’ll convert this into more realistic units by moving the decimal to the left for both of these values:
.1g of THC in Edibles (100mg), is equal to 5.67 grams of flower (again, rounding the value)
We can expand this math for lower increments, such as liquid edible products by moving the decimal over another place:
.01g of THC in Edibles (10mg) is equal to .567 grams of flower.
Please Note:
Other products in your inventory may have different values based on their specific packaging limits. However, these general calculations are valid and will ensure your store remains in compliance with Adult-Use limits in the state of Maryland.
