To restore your scanner to factory default settings, scan the following barcode:
Apple/Mac users only
If you're connecting your scanner to an Apple device, after factory resetting your scanner, scan this barcode to disable keypad emulation.
Troubleshooting
Scanner is not scanning a barcode
Open Notepad or any other word-processing application and place your cursor into a blank document, then try scanning the barcode to see if anything populates in the document.
See if the barcode scanner will scan any other barcode, such as from a water bottle.
If you have a second scanner that is working properly, try scanning the same barcode to see if the second scanner can scan it successfully. You can alternatively use a barcode scanner app on a smartphone if you don't have a second scanner available.
Check if the barcode that will not scan was printed at a size compatible with the barcode scanner. Barcodes have a “font size” and barcode scanners support a standard range.
Check that the barcode image is clear, with solid black lines, and not distorted or truncated in any way.
Scanner splits single barcodes into multiple barcodes
This can happen if the scanner fails to keep the gaps between its keyboard inputs under 100 milliseconds (i.e., it's too slow).
Some scanners have a barcode in the manual that lets them use a slow input mode. Scanning the “factory reset” barcode will help ensure this setting is off.
If the scanner is connected via Bluetooth, enabling high-speed Bluetooth on your computer/tablet might help.
Scanner is sending unexpected characters
Your computer/tablet may recognize the scanner as a keyboard rather than a scanner, which may be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner. Users in Canada should also ensure that the scanner and register device are both configured for English (US).
It is also possible the scanner is working properly, but the barcode itself is encoded with characters that the register device doesn't recognize.
