The Inventory Transaction by Category report lists sales summary data by Master Category and Category including cost and pricing information. Though this report lives in the Inventory section of the Reports module, it provides valuable sales insight and transaction information for your product categories.

Getting started
Access the report
- Go to the Reports module in the Backoffice.
- Click Inventory and search Inventory Transaction by Category in the search bar.
- Click on the report name to bring up the report page.
Default dates and search criteria
This report can be run for all locations or just the one you are logged in on, with default search dates starting 7 days from the current date using your local timezone. All Sales Reports use order date as the search criteria, and each record pulled is related to close or completed orders.
Using the Inventory Transaction by Category report
This report is meant to show inventory costs, gross sales, net sales and taxes net sales by the master category and category perspective. Using this report gives you insight into your sales by category types and different questions you have such as:
- What were your gross sales for each of your product categories?
- What were your net sales for each of your product categories?
- What was the wholesale cost for the inventory sold?
- How much did you collect in taxes for each product category?
- How much did you discount each product category?
Column configuration
Columns in this report can be rearranged or removed to give you a better snapshot at the exact data you want to see. After running the report, if there are columns you wish to configure, click the Settings gear on the right-hand side of the report table to unselect a column and drag and drop the column order.
Descriptions and calculations
The table below provides a description of each of the columns in this report and whether this field is calculated or is base data. Calculated data type describes columns that are made up of multiple points of data being combined such as Net Sales, Gross Sales, or Total Inventory Sold. A Base data type describes data derived from a single point of interest such as a Package ID, Category, or Location Name.
Note
This report does not show Returns as a column, although Returns are subtracted from Gross Sales to reach Net Sales. To see Returned amount, check out the Daily Sales Breakdown report, End of Day Summary report, POS Transaction Summary report, or the Closing Report.

| Order Date | Base data | The date the order was completed. |
| Is Category Cannabis | Filter | Use this filter to identify whether the inventory is a cannabis product or not. |
| Master Category | Base data | Master category assigned to the product. Typically flower, edibles, etc. |
| Category | Base data | Category assigned to the product in the catalog. Typically the Category is connected to the Master Category. Ex. If the Master Category is Edibles, the Category may be gummies. |
| Gross Sales | Calculation | Gross Sales is the Price multiplied by Quantity sold for every item sold. |
| Discounted Amount | Calculation | Total amount of the discount(s) applied, excluding loyalty as discount. |
| Loyalty as Discount | Calculation | Amount of loyalty applied as a discount toward the pre-tax price of the items sold. |
| Net Sales | Calculation | Total amount of gross sales minus discounts, returns, and loyalty applied as discounts. |
| Tax Amount | Calculation | Total amount of tax that consumers paid for the items sold. |
| Inventory Cost | Calculation | Wholesale cost of the inventory sold. |
