Michigan med-only locations
Purchase limits should not be set up in Dutchie POS for medical-only locations in Michigan. Instead, ensure that settings are turned on so that all medical purchases first pull the patient purchase limit allotment from Metrc directly.
The following settings should be turned on to ensure all medical patients are using the patient allotment stores in Metrc:
- Settings > Integrations > Settings > Mode > Real Time
- Settings > Integrations > Settings > Enable Allotment Check > Yes
Locations that serve adult-use customers should proceed to set up overlapping limits as described below.
Set up overlapping purchase limits
Overlapping purchase limits are where the purchase limit for a product type, like concentrates, is calculated using a flower equivalency and is deducted from the overall purchase limit but also has its own individual lower limit.
For example, dispensaries may sell 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of flower or flower equivalent, with no more than 15 grams being concentrates.
In this example, the weight of concentrate sales should be deducted from the overall 70-gram limit, but Concentrates must additionally be limited to 15 grams. In other words, a customer should be allowed to purchase the flower equivalent of 15 grams of concentrate and another 55 grams of flower or flower equivalent of other product types (other than concentrates).
To represent this in Dutchie, we will need to create two limits:
- One for the overall limit of 70 grams (2.5 ounces). Since in this case all other products are equivalent to flower, this limit should be set up as a multi-category limit with the Categories dropdown left as All categories. Therefore, all product categories will share a limit of 70 grams.
- And another one just for the concentrates limit, in this case, 15 grams.
When purchase limits are set up this way, when a customer’s cart is evaluated, all purchase limits rules are checked simultaneously, and a cart is only valid if each rule is satisfied independently, and any concentrates sold will be counted against both rules: the Concentrate-specific rule (together with any other concentrate item); and the All-category (2.5oz) rule, along with all other cannabis products in the cart.
Double-check that all product categories are assigned to the correct purchase limit category. You can do this by going to: Products > Configure > Categories, then select a product category and verify the Purchase limit category field is assigned correctly.
In these examples, Concentrates, Vapes, and Infused Prerolls are assigned to the Concentrate purchase limit category. Check your state regulations for the correct categorization of all products, including infused prerolls. These categorizations can vary by state.
However, in the below example, Vape products would be counted towards the incorrect combined inhalable purchase limit. A limit set up like this would result in vape products counting towards the general limit, not the concentrate limit as intended. Be careful not to confuse the Purchase limit category with the External category or Master category, which have different uses.
Metrc multi-packs
When selling multi-pack items, it is crucial that these products are combined into a multi-pack product in Metrc first. For details on the process and regulations around creating multi-pack products, refer to this Metrc bulletin. Multi-pack products should be accepted into Dutchie POS inventory normally as a single unit.
Multi-pack products can be sold as a single SKU in Dutchie POS, which will report back to Metrc as a single product. To ensure that purchase limits are enforced correctly, the Grams/Concentration must be entered to account for the total weight of all items incorporated into the multi-pack. For instance, a multi-pack of two .5 gram cartridges should have a grams/concentration value of 1.
