Per the Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA), in Michigan, for purposes of determining usable marijuana equivalency, the following shall be considered equivalent to 1 ounce of usable marijuana:

  • 16 ounces of marijuana-infused product if in a solid form (like chocolate bars, gummies)
  • 36 fluid ounces of marijuana-infused product if in a liquid form (like beverages)

To calculate marijuana equivalency:

  1. If a product is weighed in ounces, convert the weight to grams by multiplying the total ounces by 28.
  2. Once you have the product’s weight in grams, divide the total grams by 16 for infused solid products or by 36 for infused liquid products.

For example, for a chocolate bar weighing 1.5 ounces:

  • 1.5 ounces x 28 = 42 grams
  • 42 grams / 16 = 2.625

The chocolate bar’s usable marijuana equivalent is 2.625, which should be entered in the Flower equivalency field in Dutchie POS.

To save your staff time and reduce potential for error, you can define standard calculations for flower equivalency based on purchase limit category. This allows Dutchie POS to calculate and fill in flower equivalency values for you automatically.
