Transitioning an Apple Developer Program account from an Individual to an Organization account requires you to contact Apple and provide specific documentation. An Organization account allows you to:
- List apps under your company's legal name instead of your personal name.
- Manage team members and access.
- Have a more professional presence on the App Store.
Key Requirements
Before you begin the transition, ensure you have the following:
Legal Entity Status
Your business must be a legally recognized entity (e.g., LLC, Corporation, Inc.). Apple does not accept "Doing Business As" (DBA), fictitious names, or sole proprietorships for organization accounts.
D-U-N-S Number
This is a unique nine-digit number assigned by Dun & Bradstreet that Apple uses to verify your organization's identity and legal status. If you don't have one, you can request one for free.
Legal Authority
As the person making the request, you must be the owner, founder, or an employee with the legal authority to bind the organization to legal agreements with Apple.
Two-Factor Authentication
Your Apple ID must have two-factor authentication enabled.
Transition Process
- Contact Apple Developer Program Support: You cannot make this change yourself through the developer account settings. You must initiate the process by contacting Apple Developer Program support through their contact form. Select "Account Updates and Renewals" as the topic.
- Provide Necessary Information: In your request, clearly state that you want to convert your individual account to an organization account. Be prepared to provide:
- Your organization's legal name.
- Your organization's D-U-N-S Number.
- Your contact information, including your name, title, and phone number. Confirmation that you have the legal authority to act on behalf of the organization.
- Verification Call and Email: After submitting the request, an Apple representative will typically contact you via phone or email within a few business days to verify the information. They may ask for additional business documents to confirm your organization's identity.
- Finalize the Transition: Once Apple has verified all the information, they will email you with instructions to complete the process. This may involve accepting new agreements. During the migration, the "Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles" section of your account may be temporarily unavailable.
