This article details optional features that Dutchie Support can enable for you if you want to restrict staff members' ability to manually add products or assign packages and require them to scan product barcodes instead.
Things to consider
- Requiring staff to scan products helps prevent errors and losses, and also reduces compliance risk by ensuring that the package IDs your staff are ringing up match the physical items they're selling.
- The options described below only apply when fulfilling a pre-order (i.e., assigning packages) or when processing a standard (non-fulfillment) order. Regardless of your configuration, all users can search and add products manually when beginning a pre-order.
- These features can only be enabled or disabled by Dutchie Support.
Require a manager PIN to search
When Require PIN to search is enabled, the Add items button is locked and a manager PIN is required to search and manually add products or assign packages. After scanning an item, non-managers can click the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons to change quantities.
A manager is any user with the POS Manager permission. Learn more about user permissions.
Hide plus and minus buttons in the cart
For a more restrictive approach, you can also ask Dutchie Support to hide the plus and minus buttons that normally appear on each line item in the cart.
This means non-managers also have to scan each individual unit of a product and cannot manually change quantities, though they can still select Remove item to delete the entire line item and start over if they make a mistake.
Hide plus and minus buttons in search
Dutchie Support can also hide the plus and minus buttons in search, which prevents all users (including managers) from manually adding items to the cart while still allowing them to look up and view product information.
If Require PIN to search is also enabled, managers will be able to manually search and add products, but other users will only be able to search and view product information after a manager enters their PIN.
Example configurations
These examples are listed in order from least restrictive to most restrictive. Contact Dutchie Support to change your location's configuration.
