Troubleshoot products automatically assigned to categories

Understand how products are automatically assigned to subcategories and the recommended solution for precise sorting

Things to know

  • Automatic subcategory assignment occurs during the initial sync, which happens when products are first created in Dutchie POS Backoffice and synced to Dutchie Admin.
  • The system uses keywords in the product name to determine the automatic assignment.
  • Creating and mapping new categories in Dutchie POS is the recommended method to override keyword-based assignment and ensure specific product sorting for your retail locations.

How automatic subcategory assignment works

Items are automatically assigned to subcategories on initial sync based on keywords in the product name. For example, a product named “Drink Mix Lemon Lime 100mg” automatically moves to the Drink subcategory because of associated keywords in the product name.

However, certain products, such as small buds, multi-pack pre-rolls, and infused pre-rolls, may not automatically sort correctly.

The recommended solution is to use category mapping.

Recommended solution: create and map new categories

The recommended solution to get products to automatically sort to the correct subcategory and override the product name association is to create more product categories in Dutchie POS. You’ll need to create the necessary product categories in Dutchie POS. These new POS categories will sync across all retail locations. Then you can manually map the new POS categories in Dutchie Admin for each location.

Follow these steps to implement category mapping:

  1. Navigate to Dutchie Admin > Settings > Integrations > POS > Categories.
  2. Map the new category from the POS to the desired Dutchie subcategory. For example, create a "Popcorn Flower" category in Dutchie POS and map it to the Flower > Small Buds subcategory in Dutchie Admin.

This type of category mapping allows for more specific and accurate sorting across all your product types.
