My delivery fees aren't calculating correctly

Use this article to troubleshoot Dutchie E-Commerce delivery settings to ensure customer fees and order minimums align with store policy.

What is the issue?

Incorrect delivery fees can lead to undercharging (losing money on gas and labor) or overcharging (deterring customers from using the service). Fees may fail to apply entirely or may not trigger based on the order subtotal.

What's causing the issue?

The most common cause is a misconfiguration in the delivery fee settings at the zone or zip code level. This can include an incorrect fee amount, the wrong fee type (flat vs. percentage), or a missing Delivery Minimum. It can also occur if the store's tax configuration does not properly account for delivery fee taxability per local regulations.

How do I solve the issue?

  1. Navigate to Dutchie Admin > Settings > Delivery.
  2. Locate the delivery fee settings for your delivery zones or zip codes. For each zone/zip code, verify:
    • The Fee Type is set correctly, either flat dollar amount or percentage of order subtotal.
    • The Fee Amount reflects your intended charge.
  3. If you offer free delivery for orders above a certain amount, enter the required subtotal in the Delivery Minimum field for each applicable zone or zip code in the edit module.
  4. 4. If you use Delivery Fee Tiers (fee ranges based on order subtotal), click Edit delivery fees or + Add a delivery fee in the Delivery Fee section. 
    • Tiers also support flat or percentage fees and ensure each tier's minimum and maximum subtotal thresholds and corresponding fees are configured correctly. 
    • Fee tiers (based on order subtotal) are separate from per-zone/zip code fees.

Tip: If you serve multiple delivery zones or zip codes, review each one individually — fees, minimums, and fee types can differ per zone/zip and a mismatch on even one can cause unexpected charges for customers in that area.
