I need help assigning a driver to a delivery

Use this article to troubleshoot missing employee names in the driver assignment dropdown by verifying driver permissions in Dutchie Admin or the Dutchie POS Back Office.

What is the issue?

Every delivery order requires an assigned driver before it can move to "Out for Delivery" status. If an employee's name is missing from the driver dropdown, the order is stuck, delaying the delivery and preventing the customer from receiving tracking updates.

What's causing the issue?

The driver assignment list only displays users who have been explicitly enabled as drivers. If an employee has not been flagged with the proper driver permission, they will not appear in the dropdown. The setup process differs depending on which Dutchie product you are using.

How do I solve the issue?

If you are using Dutchie Admin (E-commerce):

  1. Go to Dutchie Admin > Settings > Users.
  2. On the Users table, locate the Driver column. This is a checkbox that appears directly on the table for each user. You do not need to click into the user's profile.
  3. Check the Driver box next to the employee's name to enable them as a driver.
  4. Make sure the user has a valid Email address on file. Email is required to enable the driver permission. (A phone number is strongly recommended so the driver can receive text notifications with order details, but it is not required to enable the checkbox.)
  5. Click Save.
  6. Navigate to the Orders tab and refresh the page. The employee should now appear in the driver assignment dropdown.

If you are using Back Office (Dutchie POS)

  1. In Dutchie POS, drivers are managed separately from the standard user list. They are not toggled via a checkbox on the user profile.
  2. Navigate to Delivery > Configure > Drivers in the back-office.
  3. Locate the Drivers section, where you can add, edit, or remove delivery drivers.
  4. Add the employee as a new driver, "ensuring they have the correct Name (required), and filling in Phone Number, License Number, and State ID as applicable for your market.
  5. Assign the driver to the correct Location where their deliveries will originate.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Return to the delivery order screen and refresh. The driver should now be available for assignment.

Still not working?

  1. Double-check that the employee's driver record is assigned to the same location as the delivery order.
  2. In Dutchie Admin, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R) if the name doesn't appear immediately.
