Use this article as an Inventory Manager to troubleshoot pricing tier visibility, manage location-specific pricing, and configure global settings for tax-inclusive pricing, rounding, and discount calculations.
Setting Up Pricing Tiers
How do I set up pricing tiers so customers get a better price when they buy more?
Pricing tiers (also called group pricing or quantity-based pricing) let you offer volume discounts — for example, 1g for $10, 3.5g for $30, 7g for $50. To set them up:
- Go to Products > Catalog in the Dutchie POS Backoffice.
- Select the product you want to add pricing tiers to.
- In the Location Details section, look for the Pricing or Pricing Tiers area.
- Add each tier with the quantity and price per unit.
- Click Save.
Can I set up pricing tiers that let customers mix and match different strains?
Yes. When creating group pricing tiers, you can configure them at the product category level rather than the individual product level. This allows customers to combine different products within the same category (e.g., different flower strains) to reach a tier threshold and receive the bulk price.
My pricing tiers arent showing up at the register. Whats wrong?
Check that:
- The tiers are saved at the correct location (tiers are location-specific).
- The product is set to the correct unit of measure that matches your tier configuration.
- The tier quantities align with the weights youre selling (e.g., if you sell in "Each" units, tiers must be set in "Each").
Switching Between Product-Level and Inventory-Level Pricing
Whats the difference between product-level pricing and inventory-level pricing?
- Product-level pricing (Catalog pricing): The price is set once on the catalog product entry and applies to all inventory packages of that product. This is simpler to manage.
- Inventory-level pricing: The price is set on each individual inventory package. This is useful when different batches of the same product have different costs or when you want to price packages independently.
How do I switch from product-level pricing to inventory-level pricing?
A: To change your pricing mode:
- Go to Settings > Options in the Dutchie POS Backoffice.
- Look for the Pricing section.
- Toggle between Catalog-level pricing and Inventory-level pricing.
- Click Save.
⚠️ Important: Switching pricing modes affects all products at that location. If you switch to inventory-level pricing, youll need to ensure that every inventory package has a price assigned, or it may default to $0.00 at the register.
Can I use product-level pricing for most items but set a different price on one specific batch?
If youre using product-level (catalog) pricing, individual package prices typically inherit from the catalog. To override pricing for a specific batch, you would need to use inventory-level pricing or adjust the price in the Location Details of the catalog for that product. Contact Dutchie Support if you need help evaluating which pricing model best fits your workflow.
Setting Location-Specific Prices
I have multiple locations. Can I set different prices for each store?
Yes. In Dutchie POS, prices are set per location via the Location Details section of each catalog product:
- Go to Products > Catalog.
- Select a product.
- In Location Details, select the specific location from the dropdown.
- Set the price for that location.
- Repeat for each location.
- Click Save.
Each location can have its own price, cost, and pricing tier configuration.
I updated a price at one location, but it changed at all my locations. Why?
This can happen if your pricing is being managed at the catalog level rather than the location level. Make sure you are editing the price within the Location Details tab for the specific location, not the global product entry. If changes are still syncing across locations unexpectedly, contact Dutchie Support to verify your pricing configuration.
Syncing Price Changes Across POS and Online Menu
I updated my prices in the POS, but the online menu still shows the old prices. How do I fix this?
Price changes in Dutchie POS sync to Dutchie E-Commerce automatically, but there can be a short delay. If prices arent updating:
- Wait 10–20 minutes — syncs are not instantaneous.
- Trigger a manual sync — In Dutchie E-Commerce Admin, go to Settings > Integrations and click Sync Now (if available).
- Check the product in E-Commerce Admin — Verify the price is reflected under the products settings in Dutchie E-Commerce.
- Clear your browser cache — Sometimes the old price is cached in your browser.
Can I set a different price online than in-store?
Dutchie E-Commerce pulls pricing from the connected POS. The prices shown online will match whats configured in the POS for that location. If you need separate online pricing, contact Dutchie Support to discuss available options for your setup.
Configuring Transaction Total Rounding
How do I round transaction totals to the nearest dollar (or nearest 5 cents)?
Transaction total rounding is configured in the Backoffice:
- Go to Settings > Options.
- Look for the Rounding section.
- Select your preferred rounding method (e.g., round to the nearest $0.05, $0.10, or $1.00).
- Choose whether to round up, down, or to the nearest increment.
- Click Save.
Tip: Rounding applies to the final transaction total after taxes and discounts. It does not change individual item prices.
Does rounding affect my reports or tax calculations?
Rounding adjustments are tracked separately in your reports so your tax calculations remain accurate. The rounding difference appears as a line item on the receipt and in your end-of-day reports.
Bulk Updating Prices
I need to update prices on hundreds of products. Is there a way to do this in bulk?
Yes. You can request a bulk price update through Dutchie Support:
- Contact Dutchie Support and request a CSV export of your product data.
- Open the spreadsheet and update the pricing columns.
- Do not edit column headers or ProductID/InventoryID columns.
- Send the updated CSV back to Dutchie Support.
- Dutchie will review and import the changes, typically outside business hours.
Important: Uploads are limited to 10,000 rows per file. If you need to update more, the file will need to be split. Also, avoid making price changes in the Backoffice while the spreadsheet is being prepared — the import will overwrite any changes made in between.
Can I do bulk price changes myself without contacting support?
For smaller updates, you can use Catalog Bulk Actions in the Backoffice. Go to Products > Catalog, select multiple products, and use the Bulk Actions dropdown to edit fields. For large-scale changes across hundreds of products, the CSV export/import process through Dutchie Support is recommended for accuracy.
Enabling Out-the-Door Pricing
How do I enable out-the-door (OTD) pricing so the price shown includes tax?
Out-the-door pricing means the sticker price customers see already includes tax, so the total at checkout matches expectations. To enable it:
- Go to Settings > Options in the Backoffice.
- Find the Out-the-Door Pricing toggle and set it to Yes/Enabled.
- Click Save.
When enabled, the system will back-calculate the tax from the listed price rather than adding tax on top.
If I enable OTD pricing, do I need to change all my existing prices?
Yes. When you enable OTD pricing, the price you set in the catalog becomes the total price the customer pays (tax-inclusive). Youll need to adjust your prices upward to account for the tax that is now included. For example, if a product was $50 + 10% tax ($55 total), youd set the OTD price to $55.
Configuring Discount Calculation Settings
How do I control whether discounts are calculated before or after tax?
In the Dutchie POS Backoffice:
- Go to Settings > Options.
- Look for the Discount Calculation section.
- Choose whether discounts apply before tax (pre-tax, reducing the taxable amount) or after tax (post-tax, reducing the final total).
- Click Save.
Tip: Most dispensaries apply discounts before tax (pre-tax), which reduces the amount of tax the customer pays. Post-tax discounts reduce the final total but do not change the tax amount.
Can I have some discounts apply pre-tax and others post-tax?
Yes. When creating individual discounts in Marketing > Discounts, you can set the discount application method (pre-tax or post-tax) on a per-discount basis, which overrides the global setting for that specific discount.
Configuring Cash Change Rounding
How do I configure rounding for cash change so we dont have to deal with pennies?
Cash change rounding is separate from transaction total rounding and applies only when the customer pays with cash:
- Go to Settings > Options in the Dutchie POS Backoffice.
- Look for the Cash Change Rounding setting.
- Select your rounding increment (e.g., nearest $0.05 or $0.10).
- Choose the rounding direction (typically in favor of the customer to round change up).
- Click Save.
Does cash change rounding affect debit or Pay by Bank transactions?
No. Cash change rounding only applies to cash transactions where physical change needs to be given. Digital payment methods calculate exact amounts and are not affected by this setting.
