This article explains why a discount returns a location restriction error and how to resolve it.
Symptoms
- A budtender attempts to apply a discount code and receives an error stating the discount is restricted from the current location
- The error appears at every register across the store, preventing the discount from being applied to any transaction
Cause
The discount's location settings are configured to permit use at only one specific location. If the store or register attempting to apply the discount does not match that permitted location, Dutchie POS blocks the discount from being applied.
Solution
Before you begin: Confirm you admin-level permissions in Dutchie Backoffice to edit discount settings.
- Navigate to Marketing > Discounts.
- Locate and select the discount that is producing the restriction error.
- Review the Locations field to confirm which location is currently authorized.
- Add the correct location(s) to the discount, or set it to All Locations if it should be available store-wide.
- Save your changes.
- Return to the register and attempt to apply the discount code again to confirm the error is resolved.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this error appear at every register, not just one? If your store operates as a single-location business but the discount is assigned to a different location record in the system, every register at your store will be blocked. Correcting the location assignment in the discount settings resolves the issue for all registers simultaneously.
Will changing the location setting affect transactions already completed with this discount? Updating location settings applies only to future transactions. Past transactions are not retroactively affected.
Who has permission to edit discount location settings? Users with manager or admin roles in Dutchie Backoffice can typically edit discount configurations. Contact your account administrator if you do not see the option to edit the discount.
