Coming soon: Manage global categories in your Dutchie Product Catalog

Global category management in Dutchie POS is an upcoming feature currently only available to select beta testers.

Global categories allow you to manage Dutchie E-Commerce category mapping entirely within Dutchie POS. Read on to learn how.

Overview

Dutchie POS product categories are fully customizable, while product categories in Dutchie E-Commerce are not customizable. So, for example, you may have custom, granular categories in Dutchie POS (e.g., Badder, Live Resin, RSO, Shatter) that all correspond (or "map") to a more general category in Dutchie E-Commerce (e.g., Concentrates).

Previously, this meant you had map your Dutchie POS categories to the corresponding Dutchie E-Commerce category in the integration settings in Dutchie E-Commerce, and re-do this mapping if you changed your categories in Dutchie POS. If a Dutchie POS category wasn't mapped to a Dutchie E-Commerce category, products in that category wouldn't appear online at all.

To help streamline category management, we're introducing global categories and global subcategories in Dutchie POS, which allow you to manage category mapping directly in Dutchie POS, where you already manage other aspects of your product catalog.

Before you begin

  • Click the cog wheel on your Catalog table to and check the box for Global category so it appears as a column in your Catalog table, allowing you to quickly spot products that still need a global category assignment.
  • Note that global category configurations apply to all of your locations.
  • You don't have to update everything at once. Until you assign a global category in Dutchie POS, your menu keeps showing each product under the category it was most recently assigned to in Dutchie E-Commerce, so nothing disappears from your menu.

How to set global categories and subcategories

There are three different ways to assign a global category to a product category or specific products:

All products within a category

  1. Go to Products > Configure > Categories.
  2. Select a category.
  3. Choose a Global category and (optional) subcategory.

  4. Click Update.

This updates the global category and subcategory for every product assigned to this Dutchie POS product category across all locations. Use this method when all products in the Dutchie POS category should be grouped the same online.

When you create new products in the future, they will inherit the global category/subcategory from their assigned Dutchie POS product category.

Multiple selected products

  1. Go to Products > Catalog.
  2. Use the checkboxes to select specific products to update.
  3. Select Bulk actions > Bulk edit product details.

  4. Select Field > Global Category, then choose a global category and (optional) subcategory.

  5. Click Save.

This updates the global category and subcategory for the selected products, and overrides any previous category-level assignment. Use this method when you want to list certain products under different categories in Dutchie POS vs. online.

One specific product

  1. Go to Products > Catalog.
  2. Select a product.
  3. Select the Online details tab.
  4. Choose a Global category and (optional) subcategory.

  5. Click Save.

This updates the global category and subcategory for this specific product, and overrides any previous category-level assignment. Use this method when you want to list one specific product under different categories in Dutchie POS vs. online or only need to update a single product.

When your changes appear online

After you save, your changes show up on your online menu shortly afterward — usually within 15 minutes.
