Push notification and loyalty enrollment reprompts in the Dutchie mobile app

This article explains the automated reprompt feature for push notifications and loyalty enrollment in the Dutchie mobile app. This applies to Dutchie mobile Android and IOS apps.

Push notifications cost less to send than SMS messages, so getting more consumers to opt in helps retailers reduce marketing spend while keeping a direct line of communication open.

The mobile app shows a recurring in-app nudge to eligible consumers, reminding them to opt into push notifications or, separately, to enroll in the dispensary's loyalty program. This gives retailers a better path to higher opt-in rates without requiring any extra work.

Before you begin

  • The reprompt requires the user to use a Dutchie-branded mobile app. It does not apply to consumers who shop only through a browser-based E-Commerce menu.
  • The push notification reprompt and the loyalty enrollment reprompt use the same underlying design pattern and cadence, but they track eligibility separately.
  • The reprompt appears only on the mobile app home screen.

How the reprompt feature works

The system checks each eligible consumer's status and shows the appropriate nudge on a recurring cadence.

  1. If a loyalty member has not opted into push notifications, the app shows an in-app nudge encouraging them to opt in.
  2. If a customer has not enrolled in the dispensary's loyalty program, the app shows an in-app nudge encouraging them to enroll.
  3. Both nudges repeat every 14 days until the consumer takes the corresponding action.

The system treats the initial onboarding prompt for push notifications as a "prompt" itself, so a newly onboarded customer does not receive an immediate second nudge right after joining.

When the system stops showing reprompts

The system permanently stops showing a reprompt once any of the following occurs:

  • The customer opts into push notifications. The system verifies this at the system level, not just within the app.
  • The customer enrolls in the dispensary's loyalty program.
  • The customer dismisses the same reprompt a total of three times.

Because the two reprompt types are tracked independently, a customer can still see the loyalty reprompt after opting into push notifications, and vice versa, until each condition above is met for that specific reprompt.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't a consumer seeing the reprompt on their home screen? Confirm the consumer has not already opted into push notifications or enrolled in loyalty, since either action permanently suppresses the corresponding reprompt. Also confirm the consumer has not dismissed that reprompt three times already, and that they are viewing the app home screen, since the reprompt does not appear on other screens.

Why did a newly onboarded consumer not see the reprompt right away? The system counts the onboarding opt-in prompt as the consumer's first prompt. The 14-day cadence starts from that point, so the reprompt will not appear again until 14 days after onboarding.

Why does a consumer keep seeing the loyalty reprompt after opting into push notifications? The push notification reprompt and the loyalty reprompt are suppressed independently. Opting into push notifications does not affect the loyalty reprompt, and the consumer will keep seeing it until they enroll in loyalty or dismiss it three times.
