Launching Pay by Bank with Loyalty & Marketing

Launching Pay by Bank When Loyalty & Marketing Is Already Live

How to announce Pay by Bank to existing customers and set up ongoing enrollment campaigns

This article covers two scenarios — follow the path that matches your situation:

  • L&M already live, adding Pay by Bank — you have an existing customer base in L&M. Follow all three steps: create the segment, send a one-time blast to existing customers, then set up the recurring campaign for new ones.
  • New to both L&M and Pay by Bank — there's no existing customer base to blast yet, so skip Step 2. Just complete Step 1 (create the segment) and Step 3 (set up the recurring campaign). As customers enter L&M and fall into the segment, they'll receive the email automatically.

Create the "No Pay by Bank" segment

  1. In Backoffice, go to Customers > Segments > Create Segment.
  2. Name the segment something clear and reusable — for example, No Pay by Bank.
  3. Under Conditions, search for and select Is Pay by Bank User.
  4. Set Option to Is and Value to False.
  5. Save the segment.

Send a one-time announcement to existing customers

This email goes to your current customer base to let them know Pay by Bank is now available. If your location is new to Loyalty & Marketing, skip this step — there's no existing customer base to reach yet. The recurring campaign in Step 3 will handle everyone as they come in.

  1. Go to Marketing > Campaigns > One-Time Blast > Email.
  2. Select the template PBB-marketing-announcement-v1, then select Next.
  3. Give the campaign a name.
  4. Under Send To, select Specified Audiences and choose the No Pay by Bank segment from Step 1.
  5. Enter a subject line — for example: Introducing Pay by Bank.
  6. From the message preview, select the logo and choose Replace to upload your dispensary's logo. Update the link URL to point to your website.
  7. Send yourself a test email and review it before scheduling.
  8. Select Next, then Schedule Send.
  9. Choose Now or Future:
    • Now — only if Pay by Bank is already live and customers can enroll immediately.
    • Future — set the date to match your actual go-live date if Pay by Bank isn't active yet. Sending before enrollment is open can create confusion.
  10. Confirm and activate the campaign. Scheduling is not the same as activating — make sure the campaign status shows as active/scheduled before moving on.

Set up a recurring campaign for new customers

This keeps the Pay by Bank announcement going out automatically to every new customer added after launch — so you don't have to repeat Step 2 manually.

  1. Go to Marketing > Campaigns > Automated Campaign > New.
  2. Choose the Customer trigger, then select Email.
  3. Follow the same setup as Step 2 — template, name, subject, logo, and link URL.
  4. Under Send To, apply the No Pay by Bank segment as an additional filter on top of the new-customer trigger. This protects against edge cases where a profile is created new in Backoffice but already has Pay by Bank enabled elsewhere (for example, from a POS import or multi-location account).
  5. Consider adding a short delay of 1–3 days before the email sends, rather than firing immediately on account creation. This gives new customers a chance to complete their first visit before you introduce a second product.
  6. Confirm the automation is set to Active before finishing — automations left in draft will not send.

Logo and branding: If your logo and website link were uploaded to the template in Step 2, check whether that branding carries over automatically here or needs to be re-added. This depends on whether it was saved to the shared template or only to that campaign instance.

  • Add an incentive. Campaigns that offer a small loyalty point bonus or first-transaction discount for enrolling in Pay by Bank typically convert better than an announcement alone.
  • Reinforce in-store. Email alone often under-converts for a payment method change. Equip budtenders with a quick talking point or add checkout signage to reinforce the message.
  • Follow up with non-converters. Consider a single reminder a week or two after the one-time blast for customers who didn't enroll — the recurring campaign only targets net-new customers, not existing ones who haven't signed up yet.
