Learn how to identify and fix products that are missing Brand data in your Dutchie Backoffice Catalog, and how to use the new Missing Brand filter.
The Catalog Missing Brand Warning helps you find shopper-facing products that do not have a Brand assigned. Brand is a customer-facing attribute that shoppers use to browse and filter online menus, so a product without a Brand can be harder for consumers to find.
Vendor, by contrast, reflects a purchasing relationship and is not a reliable substitute for Brand. Because of this distinction, Dutchie POS does not automatically copy Vendor into Brand for you.
When your Catalog reaches a meaningful concentration of unbranded products, the system displays a non-blocking warning in the Catalog. Selecting the warning's review action applies the new Missing filter in the Brand filter dropdown, which isolates products that need attention. From there, you can use existing workflows, either Bulk edit product details or the Product Detail page, to assign the correct Brand.
Before you begin
- The Catalog Missing Brand Warning only evaluates active, shopper-facing products. It does not factor in location-level availability overrides.
- The system does not automatically assign or infer a Brand from Vendor. You must confirm and assign Brands yourself.
How the warning works
The warning appears only when your Catalog meets all three of the following thresholds:
- at least 10 products missing a Brand,
- at least 20 eligible shopper-facing products,
- and a missing-Brand rate of at least 25 percent.
The system calculates eligibility using the following criteria, independent of location-level availability overrides:
- Whether the product record has a BrandId or BrandName
- Whether the product is flagged as IsCannabisProduct
- Whether the product is flagged as IsOnlineProduct
The banner shows the number of products missing a Brand and the number of eligible shopper-facing products at your location.
Reviewing products missing a Brand
- In the Catalog, locate the Brand hygiene warning banner.
- Select Review on the banner. The system applies the Missing option in the Brand filter dropdown.
- Narrow your results further if needed. The Missing Brand filter works alongside your existing search, Vendor, category, tag, pricing, and availability filters.
- Use the product name search or the Vendor filter to investigate related products together.
- Confirm that any products you plan to group together truly share the same shopper-facing Brand before assigning one. Do not assume that a shared Vendor means a shared Brand.
Assigning a Brand to products
Once you have confirmed which products should share a Brand, you have two options depending on how many products you are updating.
For multiple products that share a Brand: Use Bulk edit product details to assign the Brand to all selected products at once.
For a single product, or when you are uncertain whether a product belongs to a Brand: Use the Product Detail page to review and assign the Brand individually.
Troubleshooting
Why do I not see the Catalog Brand hygiene warning even though some of my products are missing a Brand?
The warning only appears once your Catalog meets all three thresholds: at least 10 missing Brands, at least 20 eligible shopper-facing products, and a missing-Brand rate of at least 25 percent. If your Catalog falls below any of these thresholds, the system will not display the warning, even if some products are missing a Brand.
Why doesn't the system just use my Vendor field to fill in the missing Brand?
Vendor reflects a purchasing relationship, not a customer-facing attribute. The system does not infer or copy Vendor into Brand automatically, so that shopper-facing Brand data stays accurate. You will need to confirm and assign the correct Brand yourself.
Can the Missing Brand filter be combined with my other Catalog filters?
Yes. The Missing Brand filter works alongside search, Vendor, category, tag, pricing, and availability filters, so you can narrow your results as needed.
