This article explains how to display custom subcategory names from Treez on your Dutchie E-Commerce menu, and is intended for Dispensary Managers, Inventory Specialists, and IT Specialists.
If you use Treez as your point of sale and sync your menu to Dutchie E-Commerce, Treez's custom subcategories feature lets you assign your own organization-specific subcategory names to products, rather than using the generic subcategory names that Treez and Dutchie share by default. For example, you can label a group of edibles "Crazy Chocolates" instead of the generic "Baked Good" subtype.
Custom subcategory display gives you control over how your product catalog reads to consumers on your online menu, while keeping your underlying product data and taxonomy consistent for compliance and inventory purposes. This is useful if you want your menu's category labels to match the branded or operational naming conventions you already use in Treez.
Before you begin
- This feature applies only to dispensaries using a Treez and Dutchie E-Commerce integration. It has no effect on other point of sale integrations.
- Custom subcategory display is an opt-in, integration-level setting. It is off by default, so turning it on will not change your existing category mappings unless you configure custom subcategories in Treez.
- If you have not configured a custom subcategory for a product in Treez, Dutchie E-Commerce automatically displays the standard canonical subcategory for that product (for example, "baked-goods"), so your menu will never show a missing or blank category label.
- This setting does not affect bulk or pre-pack pricing logic, which continues to read from the standard subtype field regardless of whether custom subcategory display is enabled.
Enable custom subcategory display for Treez
Acess via Dutchie Admin > Settings > Integrations > Treez
With this setting enabled, Dutchie E-Commerce displays the subcategory name you have configured for a product in Treez, in place of the generic subtype name, on your online menu.
How Dutchie matches your Treez subcategories
When custom subcategory display is enabled, Dutchie E-Commerce looks for the subcategory display name that Treez returns for each product. If Treez returns a custom subcategory name for a product, your menu shows that name. If Treez does not return a custom subcategory name for a product, your menu shows the standard canonical subcategory for that product type instead, so every product always displays a subcategory.
Troubleshooting
Why doesn't my custom subcategory name show up on my menu?
Confirm that you have enabled the custom subcategory display setting in Settings > Integrations > Treez in Dutchie Admin, and confirm that you have configured a custom subcategory name for that product in Treez. If no custom subcategory is configured, Dutchie E-Commerce displays the standard canonical subcategory for that product instead.
Does this setting change my product pricing?
No. Bulk and pre-pack pricing logic continues to read from the standard subtype field, regardless of whether custom subcategory display is enabled.
Does enabling this setting change how my existing categories are mapped?
No. This setting is off by default and only changes category display for products where you have configured a custom subcategory in Treez.
