Learn how to include a contact card in your SMS opt-in messages in Dutchie Backoffice, the back-of-house software component of Dutchie Point of Sale (Dutchie POS). This article is for marketing managers and general managers.
A contact card (also called a vCard) encourages consumers to save your dispensary's phone number as a contact on their phones. Saving your number as a contact helps prevent your SMS marketing messages from being flagged as spam.
In the opt-in message configuration section of Dutchie Backoffice, you choose the 10DLC brand your location uses for SMS opt-in messages and decide when to include a contact card. You can include a contact card in two situations:
- When a consumer newly opts in to SMS marketing.
- When a consumer who already opted in completes a transaction.
Marketing managers can use these options to protect the reach of SMS marketing messages and weigh that benefit against the added cost of MMS messages. General managers can use them to control how much your dispensary spends on SMS and MMS messaging.
Before you begin
- Including a contact card sends the message as an MMS instead of an SMS, which can add cost.
- Each location uses its own opt-in message settings. You configure the 10DLC brand for each location from that location's settings page.
- If you do not configure a 10DLC brand, the location sends a generic opt-in message that does not include your dispensary name or a contact card.
- Dutchie sends a contact card to an existing opted-in consumer only if that consumer's phone number has not already received one.
Configure contact cards
- Go to Dutchie POS Backoffice > Marketing > Loyalty > Configure > SMS settings > Op-in Message Configuration.
- Use the dropdown to choose which 10DLC brand this location's SMS opt-in messages use. The brand you choose determines the brand name that consumers see in the message.
- Turn on the contact card options you want. You can turn on either option or both:
- Send a contact card to newly opted-in consumers.
- Send a contact card to existing opted-in consumers when they complete a transaction. Dutchie sends this contact card only if the consumer's phone number has not already received one.
- Review the preview in the window next to the toggles. The preview updates as you turn options on and off.
- Click Save to save your options.
Note: Including a contact card sends the message as an MMS instead of an SMS, which can incur an additional cost.
To stop including contact cards, turn off the options you no longer want and click Save.
Troubleshooting
Why did a consumer receive an opt-in message without my dispensary name or a contact card?
The location does not have a 10DLC brand configured. When no brand is configured, the location sends a generic opt-in message that does not include your dispensary name or a contact card. Choose a 10DLC brand in the opt-in message configuration section of the SMS settings tab, and then click Save.
Why did an existing consumer not receive a contact card after a transaction?
Dutchie sends a contact card after a transaction only if the consumer's phone number has not already received one. If the phone number already received a contact card, Dutchie does not send another.
