Copy fields from a linked global product catalog item to Online Details

Learn how to copy selected fields from a linked global product catalog item into a product's Online Details in Dutchie Backoffice, part of Dutchie Point of Sale (Dutchie POS).

When you link a product in your catalog to an item in the global product catalog, you can bring brand-provided content into the product's Online Details. Instead of retyping titles and descriptions or hunting for images, you choose which fields to copy from the linked item and apply them in one place.

This feature helps you:

  • Reduce manual data entry when you maintain product content.
  • Keep your menu content consistent with brand-verified information.
  • Adopt high-quality titles, descriptions, and images from the brand while you stay in control of which fields change.

You can use this feature to speed up catalog maintenance and to keep product content accurate and consistent across their menu.

The linked global product catalog item is the source of truth for the values you copy.

Before you begin

  • Your product must be linked to a global product catalog item before you can copy fields from it.
  • Linking a product does not copy any fields. Nothing changes on the product until you apply updates from Online Details.
  • If the brand has not provided a subcategory, you must select one manually before you save. After you do, the subcategory field no longer copies automatically from the linked item.
  • Copying images is optional. You choose whether to add the linked image to your existing images or replace them.

How field copying works

When you link a product to a global product catalog item, the product keeps its current values until you decide to update them. You then open Online Details, choose the fields you want to copy, and save. The system saves the copied values to the product's catalog entry.

You can copy these fields from the linked item:

  • Online Title
  • Online Description
  • Global Category
  • Images

Copy fields from the linked item

  1. In Dutchie Backoffice, go to Products > Catalog.
  2. Select the linked product you want to update.
  3. Click Online Details.

  4. Select the fields you want to copy from the linked global product catalog item.
  5. Review the values the system fills in.

  6. Click Save.

Select a subcategory manually

If the brand has not selected a subcategory for the linked item, you will not have a subcategory to copy. In this case, you select one yourself.

  1. In Online Details, open the subcategory field.
  2. Select the subcategory you want.
  3. Save your changes.

After you select a subcategory manually, the subcategory field stops copying automatically from the linked item. The system keeps your selection instead of overwriting it with future updates.

Choose how to apply the product image

When you copy the product image, you choose how the linked image works with your current image.

  • Add the linked image on top of your current product image to keep both.
  • Remove your current product image and use only the linked image.

Verify your changes

After you save, confirm that the values you copied appear correctly.

  1. Refresh or reload the page.
  2. Open Online Details for the product again.
  3. Confirm that the title, description, category, subcategory, and images match what you selected.
