Learn about the legacy scale setup for Dutchie POS registers running windows and 232key.

This is a legacy scale setup for Dutchie POS Registers running on Windows computers only. The third-party app 232key is no longer required for connecting a scale to your Dutchie Register. See the following articles for the current recommended setup:

The Dutchie POS and 232key integration seamlessly transmits bulk flower weights from a connected scale to the Dutchie Register web application.

Things to consider

  • Be sure to set up the 232key app on each register before enabling this feature in the Dutchie Backoffice. Enabling the feature without first setting up 232key will prevent you from selling weight-based products.
  • When Restrict to scale weighing is also enabled, users cannot manually change the scale weight in the Weight/price field, providing a security measure to support accurate sales. If Weight override is enabled for your location, users may still enter an override. Learn more below.
  • This feature works on a per-register basis.
  • This integration works with A&D scales in their default configuration, so you should not need to change your scale's settings. If your scale's settings have already been changed from the defaults, set up the integration using the same settings as your scale (see Setup instructions, step 4).

Set up the 232key app

Download and install the 232key app on each point-of-sale computer. Connect the scale to a port on the computer.

First-time users

If you are installing this for the first time, you may need to install drivers to recognize the scale. If the driver is not installed, you can update your computer to the latest version of Windows, and it should recognize the scale.

Setup instructions

  1. In the 232key app, select the Input tab.
  2. The Port should be automatically populated by 232key, but if not, select the port that the scale is connected to.
  3. From the Device dropdown, choose A&D.
  4. Click Set defaults to automatically configure 232key to use A&D's default scale settings. If your scale's settings have been changed from the defaults, do not use Set defaults and instead select the settings that match your scale's configuration. Or, you can reset your scale to factory defaults, which will match the default settings in 232key

  5. Select the Output tab.
  6. From the Decimal separator dropdown, choose Dot.
  7. From the End with dropdown, choose Esc.

Enable restrict to scale weighing

This setting is recommended for use with the scale integration because it prevents users from altering or entering a weight other than the scale reading. Note that this setting is register-specific and does not disable the weight override function.

  1. In the Dutchie Backoffice, go to Settings > Devices > Registers
  2. Select a register.
  3. Scroll down to Restrict to scale weighing and select Yes.

  4. Click Save.

Enable weight override and threshold

Weight override is an optional feature that allows users to price bulk flower based on common weights (1g, 2g, 3.5g, etc.) even when the actual weight is slightly different (also known as "weigh heavy"). If weight override is not enabled, bulk flower is priced based on the actual weight. Contact Dutchie Support to have weight override enabled for your location.

When weight override is enabled, it's important to also set a Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold. This enforces a maximum difference between the actual weight and the weight override to prevent users from weighing excessive amounts or charging an artificially low price.

  1. Go to Settings > Location.
  2. Scroll down to the Defaults section.
  3. In the Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold field, enter an amount greater than 0 and select a unit of measure.

  4. Optionally, turn on Auto Adjust Weight Override. When enabled, if the weight of the product falls within the dispense weight vs. actual weight threshold, the item's price will be automatically adjusted accordingly.
  5. Click Save.

This threshold is not inclusive. For example, if you set the threshold to 0.2g, budtenders can enter an override that is less than 0.2g different from the actual weight, but not 0.2g or more.

Using the scale integration at the point of sale

  1. In the 232key app, select Start
  2. In the Dutchie Register cart, scan or select the bulk flower product you want to weigh and then click the calculator button

  3. Place your product on the scale.
  4. Press the Print button on the scale to automatically calculate the weight and price at the register.

Depending on your scale, the button to calculate weight and send it to the Dutchie Register may be something other than Print.

  5. If you enabled Restrict to scale weighing, once the weight reading stabilizes, the Weight field locks and can only be changed by adding or removing flower from the scale.
  6. If the weight override feature is enabled and the weight is within the Dispense weight vs actual weight threshold, the Weight override field auto-populates accordingly (even if Restrict to scale weighing is also enabled). If you enabled Auto Adjust Weight Override, the price is updated automatically. If the weight is not within the set threshold, the Add button will be greyed out.

  7. Click Add.
