Learn how to add to the product catalog in Dutchie POS.
The details you enter for each product in your Catalog provide budtenders education about the products that they are selling. This is also where you can enter product descriptions and details for online menus.
Things to consider
- Fields marked with an asterisk are required and can be customized to your specific needs.
- Location details, Online details, Label settings are optional, but it's recommended to fill out optional fields for more reportable.
- To add online details about a product you must enabled the Online details toggle.
- For British Columbia operators: All cannabis products need a regulatory cateogry assigned to them at the catalog level in Dutchie as this is the field that ties in to your Non-Medical BC Compliance Report.

Add a new product to the catalog
- Go to Products > Catalog.
- Click the Add Product button.
- Fill out the fields on the Details tab.
- The information you enter here is for all locations in your LSP.
- You can enter optional location-specific details later.
- You can also customize which of these fields are shown, hidden, or required.
- This list only includes the most common fields and is not exhaustive. You may have additional fields depending on your state and configuration. Contact Dutchie Support if you have questions about a particular field or option.
Field Description Name This field will determine how the product name is displayed in the inventory and register. Abbreviation Optional: create an abbreviation for the product for quick lookup. SKU Completely internal reference number for this product generated by Dutchie POS. You can use that number to filter or search, which will be attached to that product. You can format how your SKU generates in Products > Configuration > Format. Master category / Category Select the Master category and/or Category that this product belongs to. You can customize these options in Products > Configure. For example: Rolling Paper, Rolling Trays, Glass, and Batteries could all be Categories under the Master category of Accessories. Product categories can be restricted to specific customer types using the Available for setting at the category level. Products also have their own individual Available for settings which override the category-level setting (see below). However, changing the product's category assignment will also apply the category-level Available for setting to the product unless you manually change it below.
Tags Similar to social media hashtags, you can assign tags to the product for easier association, searching, and filtering, or for categorizing products in online menus. Type & Default unit How is this product measured or counted? For example, individual pre-packaged items would use Quantity as both the Type and Default unit. Bulk flower products would use Type: Weight, and Default unit: Gram. Beverages could be Type: Volume, and Default unit: Fluid Ounce. Cannabis product Choose Yes or No. This indicates whether the product must be tracked in your state traceability system and may not apply to certain CBD or low-THC products. Check your local regulations.
Important: This settings also controls Purchase Limits. If set as No, the purchase limit set for the product will not apply.
Grams/concentration The cannabis content of the product (total weight in grams for flower; THC content for all other product categories). Convert milligram values to grams. For example, if an item contains 100MG of THC, enter 0.1 in this field.

Net and gross weight Net weight is the weight of the product and how it’ll appear on Dutchie Ecommerce. If these field is left empty, the Flower Equivalent weight will be used. Non-cannabis weight Weight of the product's non-cannabis components, such as rolling papers and crutches/filters. THC content Used in some states to report THC content to Metrc. This does not appear on Dutchie Ecommerce. CBD content Used in some states to report CBD content to Metrc. This does not appear on Dutchie Ecommerce. Flower equivalent The product's flower equivalent in grams (for states that use flower equivalency calculations for non-flower products). Leave this blank if it does not apply. Do not enter a 0 (zero) in this field.

Price and Cost Price is what the customer will pay. Cost is what you paid for the product. You can assign the prices now at the catalog level, or you can set the price and cost upon intake of each delivery. Taxed price This optional feature shows a preview of the tax-inclusive price, based on the applicable flat and percentage tax rates. Editing the Taxed price automatically recalculates the Price field and vice-versa. Learn more. Allow automatic discounts You can configure discounts that the register automatically applies to qualifying purchases based on various criteria. This setting allows you to exclude this specific product from automatic discounts, even if the product would otherwise qualify for an automatic discount. Tax categories Select the category this product belongs to for tax purposes. The options that appear here are configured under Settings > Taxes and compliance. Learn more. Strain, vendor, and brand These are all built in the Products tab with their section to build out strain names with descriptions, vendors with contact information and brands. These are essential, with brand loyalty becoming more prevalent in the cannabis industry.
Note: The product-level strain name does not affect the inventory-level strain, which is based on the batch. You can edit inventory-level strain information by looking up the corresponding batch in Cultivation > Batches.
Alternate name Assign an optional nickname or an alternate name for the product here. Taxable Choose yes or no. THC and CBD content This may vary from package to package. Enter an approximate value here. Low inventory threshold This can be set so that when you hit a certain threshold, this item will automatically pull from your online menu, and pre-orders can no longer be made for that product. It will stay on live menus for in-store traffic only to avoid insufficient products at the store. Available for Select which customer types can purchase items in this product category. By default, all customer types enabled for your location are selected. At least one customer type must be selected. Notes:
- Categories also have an Available for setting. Product-level settings will override category-level settings.
- If you change the Available for settings for an existing category, this will also update the Available for settings for all assigned products.
- If you change a product’s category assignment, the product will inherit its new category’s Available for settings, even if it previously had its own settings.
- To maintain product-specific Available for settings after changing a product’s category assignment or the category-level settings, you will need to manually change the Available for settings at the product level.
Default pricing tier Max quantity per transaction This is outside the normal legal purchase limits that you would adhere to - this would be an additional restraint you’d use to limit someone buying too much of a specific product. It can extend the shelf life of top-rated products that sell out quickly.
Location details
Use the Location details tab to enter location-specific details such as:
- Price and Pricing tier
- Wholesale Cost
- Whether the product is Available on POS and Available online for this location.
- Leaving these as "Select an option" means that the location-level availability settings will default to whatever you've set at the LSP/organization level (i.e., the "Available on point of sale" setting on the Details tab and/or the "Available online" setting on the Online details tab).
- Selecting Yes or No for either of these options overrides the LSP/organization-level availability settings.

- Low inventory threshold
Online details
The Online details tab is where you can control how the product is presented on integrated online menus.
- Available online (Enabled or Disabled)
- Online title: use this field if you want to show a different product name in online menus. Otherwise, the name from the Details tab is used.
- Online description: a product description that will appear in online menus.
- Large online description: This is an artifact from a deprecated feature set that no longer has any effect.
- On sale: This is an artifact from a deprecated feature set that no longer has any effect.
