Connect a receipt printer and cash drawer to your Dutchie POS Register

In this article, learn how to connect a receipt printer and cash drawer to the Dutchie Register.

Things to know

  • The images in this article show an Epson receipt printer and a Dutchie Register terminal (Elo) device. Your hardware may vary but will use similar connections.
  • This setup is for a direct USB connection between a single receipt printer and a single register. If you need to connect multiple registers to a single receipt printer for remote printing and/or fulfillment purposes, use a connect via PrintNode instead.

Connect the receipt printer to your Register

  1. Unbox the receipt printer and find the included USB and power cables.

You may have separate cables or a Y-cable that combines USB and power. With the Y-cable, you don't need a power outlet for the receipt printer as it draws power from the Register device.

  2. Place the receipt printer on a flat surface and remove the back and bottom covers (Epson) or back cover (Star) to access the input ports.
  3. Connect the receipt printer to an available USB port on your device.
    • If you have separate USB and power cables, connect the USB cable as shown in the following image and connect the power cable to an outlet.ReceiptPrinterAndCashDrawer.png

    • If you have the Y-cable, connect it as shown in the following image. register-qsg-illustration.jpg
  4. If you are connecting a cash drawer to your Register, refer to the next section. If you are not connecting a cash drawer, replace the bottom and/or back covers of the receipt printer.
  5. Turn the receipt printer so the paper feed port is on top. Confirm the blue LED is lit, indicating a successful power connection.

Connect the cash drawer to the receipt printer

  1. Unbox the cash drawer and find the included cash drawer cable.
  2. Place the cash drawer upside down on a flat surface and locate the cable port on the bottom.
  3. Connect the wider end of the cable to the cash drawer and make sure the connector clicks into place.
  4. Connect the narrower end of the cable to the port on the bottom of the receipt printer and make sure the connector clicks into place.
  5. Replace the bottom and/or back covers of the receipt printer.
  6. Turn the receipt printer so the paper feed port is on top. Confirm the blue LED is lit, indicating a successful power connection.
