Learn how to scan guest IDs, create profiles automatically, and check in customers, using a barcode scanner with Dutchie POS register.
This article applies only to Dutchie's native ID scanning features and not VeriScan.
From the Dutchie Register's Guest List, you can use a two-dimensional (2D) barcode scanner to scan a customer ID, automatically create a profile, and check the customer in.
Supported scanners
ID scanning only works with the following 2D barcode scanner models:
- Zebra H-6672 (2D, wired only)
- Zebra DS2208
- Zebra CS6080
- Zebra CR6080
- Zebra DS2278 2D Barcode Scanner
Things to know
- This feature works differently depending on whether you have auto-check in and auto-create profile settings enabled. Learn more.
- Dutchie's scanning solution does not include fraud detection features. If you are in a market that requires fraud detection, we recommend using the VeriScan integration instead.
- Documents eligible for scanning include:
- Driver’s licenses
- State IDs
- Missouri and Mississippi medical IDs
- Potential causes for errors at scanning:
- Underage
- Expired ID
- Duplicate ID
- MMJID expired
- Banned customer
Configure ID scanning settings in the Backoffice
- Go to Settings > Location.
- Under the Point of Sale section, check or uncheck the boxes for:
- Auto check in with ID scan
- Auto create profile with ID scan
- For anonymous markets, we recommend turning these settings off.
- Click Save.
Scan an ID at the Register
Once you have connected your scanner and configured your settings, you are ready to scan IDs.
If you are not using a supported scanner, this functionality may not work. Only these scanners are supported.
Successful scan
- Click the Scan ID button.
- Scan the customer's ID:
If auto check-in is enabled:
- If a matching profile exists, and no issue is detected, a success message appears and the customer is added to the guest list.
- If no matching profile exists, and the auto-create new profile option is enabled, a new customer profile with information from the ID will pre-populate. Verify the information and complete check-in.
If auto check-in is disabled:
- A Customer check in window appears. Select the Check-in button to add the customer to the guest list.
- If no matching profile exists, select Create new profile. Verify the customer profile information and complete check-in.
Failed scan examples
Failed scan underage
The scan will show a failed status in the modal with an Underage status.
Failed scan banned customer
If the ID matches a profile that is banned, the status will show as banned in the modal.
The check in button is only disabled if the "block banned customer" setting is ON.
Failed scan expired
If the ID expires within 60 days the budtender will be notified, but can still check in guests.
