Colorado | Add "use by" dates to Dutchie POS inventory and labels
This article applies to Dutchie POS.
As of January 1, 2024, a "use by" date must be included on the labels of all cannabis products sold in Colorado. This date should be entered for each package in Metrc.
Here's how to stay compliant with this rule in Dutchie POS:
- Turn on "Use by" dates in Metrc settings
- Add "Use by" dates to package labels
- Warnings at the Register
Turn on "Use by" dates in Metrc settings
- In the Backoffice, go to Settings > Integrations > Metrc.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Set Use "Use by date" to Yes.
- Click Save.
A Use by date field will now appear on the Package detail, Receive, and Convert screens for all cannabis items. This field will be automatically populated with "use by" dates fetched from Metrc.
"Use by" dates will also be visible in the Inventory table and inventory exports.
You can edit "use by" dates in Dutchie POS, but keep in mind that any changes to "use by" dates in Dutchie POS will not be reported back to Metrc.
Dutchie POS only reports "use by" dates to Metrc when creating a new package. If you're also creating a new production batch, Dutchie POS posts to Metrc a "use by" date that is 9 months from today. If you're not creating a new batch, the previous package's "use by" date is posted to Metrc.
Add "Use by" dates to package labels
Use the label editor in the Backoffice to add Inventory | Use by date to your package label template(s).
Warnings at the Register
When adding items to a cart, if an item has a "use by" date in the past, a warning message appears but does not prevent you from adding the item to the cart or from completing the sale. The cashier must inform the customer that the "use by" date has passed but the customer may still decide to purchase the item.
