Frequently asked questions: Dutchie E-Commerce branded mobile app

This article answers questions about Dutchie E-Commerce's Branded Mobile App.

Mobile app availability

Is the Dutchie Mobile App available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store?

Currently, the app is only available in the Apple App Store, but we are working on an Android app for Google Play. We expect a Google Play Store version to be available Q4 of 2025, but dates are subject to change.

If I already have a mobile app solution, but am interested in switching to Dutchie, can I pilot the Dutchie experience before making a decision?

  • If you have an existing app, we can upload an app to your existing Apple account, and let you test it internally. However, to test externally, you will need to replace the existing app in the App Store.
  • If you do not have an existing app, we can set you up to pilot at one location.

Onboarding and setup

What is the timeline for onboarding?

Once all required action items are completed, the app can typically go live within 14 days, pending Apple’s approval. Please note that Apple’s review process can occasionally cause delays beyond this timeline.

What does the onboarding process look like for retailers?

As a retailer, you first need to create an Organization Apple Developer Account. A crucial step in this process is obtaining a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number. This unique 9-digit identifier, issued by Dun & Bradstreet, is often required by Apple to verify your business's identity and legal entity. You'll typically apply for a DUNS number through Dun & Bradstreet's website, and the process can take several business days to complete. Once you have your DUNS number, you can proceed with the rest of your Apple Developer Account setup.

After creating your account, you’ll need to complete several action items, including:

  • Add Dutchie as an admin to your Apple Developer Account.
  • Send an app name and an app icon to Dutchie.
  • Have Dutchie create the app.
  • Provide app details, such as app previews and screenshots.

Full step-by-step for how to set up an Organization Apple Developer Account can be found in the Setup an Organization Apple Developer Account help center article. For step-by-step onboarding instructions, see Customer Onboarding Guide

How can I market the app to customers?

Dutchie and Apple provide several resources and avenues to help retailers market their app, including:

  • Smart app banners on their website.
  • Dutchie Campaigns for targeted marketing.
  • QR codes used in-store, on receipts, and in printed materials.
  • Social media and email marketing.

To make promotion even easier, we have put together a promotion guide to help retailers navigate promotion, see Promote your branded mobile app.

Location and preferences

Do E-Commerce locations need to be “open/activated” for mobile app orders?

Yes, your location's status must be toggled to “open/activated” in Dutchie E-Commerce for customers to order from that location using the app.

If I have an Alpine IQ app, do I lose those people who have downloaded the app before?

No. We do an app update and those consumers are auto transferred to the new updated app.

I already have an Apple Developer account, can I use it to onboard with Dutchie?

Yes, we can utilize an existing Apple account, but we can work with you to create a new app or reformat your existing application.

Can delivery-only locations with multiple E-Commerce locations use the mobile app?

Yes, delivery-only locations can use the app. Though enhanced delivery features like order tracking are being considered for future development.

If I have multiple brands and locations under one LSP, can I customize the mobile app per location?

Retailers have significant flexibility when it comes to their apps on the Apple Developer platform. Under a single developer account, you can create multiple applications for multiple brands. This means if a retailer operates multiple distinct brands, each can have its own dedicated app. Furthermore, you can fully customize your app icon and change it at any time within the Organization Apple Developer account, giving you complete control over your brand's visual representation.

While you can create independent apps for each physical location, this approach can introduce considerable complexity, particularly for retailers utilizing Dutchie Plus accounts. We generally don't recommend pursuing independent apps per location for Dutchie Plus users unless it's absolutely essential.

Features and functionality

Does Pay by Bank need to be enabled on E-Commerce for the mobile app?

Yes, Pay by Bank needs to be enabled in Dutchie E-Commerce to show up as a payment option on the mobile app.

Can the mobile app show discounts while hiding them on the online menu?

Yes, it's possible to configure discounts to show on the mobile app while hiding them on the online menu.

How are mobile app orders labeled in the register?

Mobile app orders are labeled as “online orders” in Dutchie.

How can we customize the menu on Mobile App?

The app is a representation of your Dutchie E-Commerce Menu; thus, it can be customized in the Dutchie Admin. They automatically apply to both your E-Commerce menu and the mobile app. No extra customization needed.

Will Staff Picks and other collection carousels show on the app in parity with Dutchie E-Commerce?

Yes. Staff Picks and other collections you have set up will show in the app the same as they do on the E-Commerce menu, see Create and build collections

What is the consumer shopping experience in the Android app?

As Google Play restricts checkout directly from the app, the shopping experience with Dutchie Mobile Apps on Android differs from the experience on Apple devices. Instead of a Checkout option, Android users will see a call to action within the app to Shop on Web, which redirects to the dispensary website where they can build a cart and check out.
