Use this article to troubleshoot viewing sales data by product category in Dutchie POS (Backoffice) to better analyze performance and inform purchasing decisions.
What's causing the issue?
This is a standard reporting need for users evaluating their product mix or identifying top-performing categories. If data appears incomplete or inaccurate, it is usually caused by products not being assigned to the correct product type, or by incorrect date range or location filters.
How do I solve the issue?
Before you begin, ensure your products are properly assigned to the correct product types in your inventory settings.
Reports > Sales > Overview
- Log in to the Dutchie POS Backoffice.
- Navigate to the Reports > Sales > Overview
- Select your desired date range using the date picker. Use the available filters to narrow the data by Location if you manage multiple sites.
- In the Sales Breakdown section, filter by Master Category to view category sales breakdown.
- Click in the the category to expose more information about the performance of the category (e.g., Location name, Master Category, Gross Sales, Discounted Amount, Loyalty as Discount, Returned Amount, Net Sales, Tax Amount)
- If you need to perform a deeper analysis or share the data, click the Export button to download.

The following DPOS static reports are the most relevant for evaluating product mix and category performance:
- POS Sales Summary: Provides a high-level overview of sales data, including breakdowns by product category. This is the primary "go-to" for category-level revenue analysis.
- POS Transaction Summary: Line-item detail per transaction, filterable by product type. Useful for granular validation.
- Profit Report: Shows sales revenue alongside cost data, grouped by product category. Helps identify gross margin by category.
- Inventory Value Report: Displays current inventory value organized by product category. Useful for comparing what's on hand vs. what's selling.
- Inventory Sold Report: Tracks units sold over a date range by product category, helpful for identifying top-performing categories by volume (not just revenue).
