Product linking basics
What does it mean to link a product? Linking connects your local POS product to a matching product in the Dutchie Global Brand Catalog. Once linked, your product can pull in standardized information like the brand-approved name, image, and description. It also unlocks features like the Fetch Brand Updates action and the suggested match widget.
How do I link a product? Go to the Product Detail Page for any product. If a suggested match appears in the widget, you can accept it directly. Otherwise, use the Actions menu and select Link to Brand Catalog. The link modal will open with brand and category filters pre-populated based on your product, making it faster to find the right match.
What is the difference between a high-confidence and low-confidence suggested match? High-confidence matches are based on a direct product identifier match. Low-confidence matches are based on product name and category similarity. Either way, you review and approve the match before anything changes on your product.
What happens if I link the wrong product by mistake? You can unlink and relink at any time from the Product Detail Page. Linking is not permanent and does not automatically overwrite your existing product data unless you explicitly choose to apply brand updates on the diff screen.
Can I link products in bulk? Not directly through the UI at this time. The nightly automation job handles bulk brand-level linking overnight. For individual products, linking is done one at a time through the Product Detail Page or the link modal.
Catalog table and icons
What does the green checkmark icon in the Link Status column mean? A green checkmark means the product is linked to a product in the Brand Catalog. A gray checkmark means it is not linked yet. You can use this column to quickly audit which of your products still need to be matched.
What is the Brand Catalog Product column? This column shows the standardized product name as defined by the brand in the Global Catalog. It is different from your local product name. You can use this column to audit naming consistency across your catalog and spot products where your local name differs from the brand-approved name.
What does the verified icon next to a brand name mean? The verified icon indicates that the brand is officially registered in the Dutchie Global Brand Catalog. It appears in the catalog table, filter dropdowns, Bulk Edit, and the Product Detail Page. It does not affect how the product behaves, but it signals that the brand data comes from a trusted source.
The diff sccreen
What is the diff screen? The diff screen appears after you link a product and shows a side-by-side comparison of your current local product data versus what is in the Brand Catalog. You choose which fields to accept from the Brand Catalog, if any, before confirming the link.
Do I have to apply brand updates when I link a product? No. You can link a product without applying any changes by clicking Link without updates. This connects your product to the Brand Catalog entry without touching any of your local data.
Why is the Use Brand Updates button grayed out? The button stays disabled until you actively select at least one field to accept from the Brand Catalog. This is intentional so you do not accidentally overwrite data without making a deliberate choice.
What happens if the brand updates their catalog data after I have already linked? You can pull the latest data at any time using Actions > Fetch Brand Updates on the Product Detail Page. This opens the diff screen again so you can review what changed and decide whether to accept any of the updates. Your product is not changed automatically.
Brand linking and the Brands page
What is the difference between linking a brand and linking a product? Linking a brand associates your local brand record with a brand in the Global Brand Catalog. Linking a product associates a specific POS product to a specific catalog product. Both can be done independently, but linking brands first makes product linking faster because the brand filter in the link modal auto-populates.
How do I link a local brand to the Global Brand Catalog? Go to the Brands page, click into a brand, and use the Associated Global Brand dropdown to search for and select the matching global brand. Once linked, the brand name shows the verified icon everywhere it appears and the Associated Global Brand column on the Brands list page will show the connection.
Will linking a brand rename it? No. Linking a brand to the Global Catalog does not change your local brand name or Display Name. You can still edit the brand name freely. The association is stored separately and does not overwrite anything you have locally.
What does the nightly job do? Each night, an automated job runs and attempts to match any unlinked local brands to brands in the Global Catalog based on name matching. If it finds a confident match, it creates the association automatically. You do not need to do anything, but you can review and adjust any associations from the Brands page.
Online details and product preview
What is the Product Preview on the Online Details page? The Product Preview panel shows you a live preview of how the product will appear on your menu, including the image, description, and menu score. It updates as you make changes so you can see the impact before saving.
What is a menu score? The menu score reflects how complete and enriched a product's online listing is. Products with an image and a description score higher. A higher score generally means better visibility and presentation on your online menu.
Where do images and descriptions come from? Images and descriptions can come from the Brand Catalog when you link a product and accept those fields on the diff screen. You can also upload your own image or write your own description directly on the Online Details page. The preview will reflect whichever source is currently active.
The Suggested Match Widget
Where does the suggested match widget appear? It appears on the Product Detail Page for unlinked products. If the system finds a likely match in the Brand Catalog, a suggestion card appears with the candidate product. You can accept or dismiss it.
What if the suggested match is wrong? Just dismiss it. Dismissing a suggestion does not prevent you from manually linking the product later through the Actions menu. It simply removes that specific suggestion from view.
Will all of my products have a suggested match right away? Not necessarily. Suggestions depend on catalog coverage and the similarity between your local product data and what is in the Brand Catalog. Coverage will grow over time. Products without suggestions can still be linked manually.
General
Does any of this affect how my products ring up at the POS? No. Linking products to the Brand Catalog is a catalog enrichment and merchandising feature. It does not change pricing, inventory, compliance data, or how transactions are processed.
If I link a product and apply brand updates, can I undo it? Fields that were overwritten by brand updates can be manually edited back on the Product Detail Page. There is no one-click undo, so review the diff screen carefully before accepting changes.
What if a product I carry is not in the Brand Catalog? You can still use your POS normally for that product. It just will not have a catalog link or the enrichment that comes with it. Catalog coverage is expanding continuously, so check back over time.
Who do I contact if something looks wrong after go-live? Reach out to your account manager or the support team. For the VT market, a dedicated point of contact will be available during the go-live window to handle questions quickly.
