This article covers the Address Block List feature in Dutchie E-Commerce, which allows you to block delivery addresses.
The Address Block List lets you stop future delivery orders from being placed to a specific address. You might use this if an address has a history of fraud, repeated failed deliveries, or if a customer has asked to be excluded from delivery.
Before you begin
- Any staff member with access to Delivery Settings or to an individual order can add or remove addresses from the block list. No special permission level beyond normal order or settings access is required.
- Blocking an address applies enterprise-wide. Once you block an address, no location under your enterprise can deliver to it, even if the address was blocked from a different location's order.
- The system matches addresses regardless of capitalization or extra spaces, so you do not need to enter an address exactly as a customer typed it.
- Blocking applies to the whole street address, not just a specific apartment or unit number. A similar address at the same building (for example, a different unit) will still be blocked.
- Adding an address to the block list only prevents future orders. It does not cancel or refund any order already in progress.
Where to find it
The block list lives alongside your other delivery rules.
- From the Admin dashboard, go to Settings > Ordering > Delivery.
- Scroll to the Block List section, listed alongside Cities, Zip Codes, and Zones.
You will find a table of any addresses that are currently blocked, along with an + Add Address button.
Adding an address to your block list
There are two ways to block an address, depending on where you are starting from.
Option A: From Delivery Settings
- Go to Settings > Ordering > Delivery. and click + Add Address.
- Start typing the street address in the search field. Suggestions will appear as you type. Select the correct match from the list.
- Optionally, add an internal note (for example, "Repeated failed deliveries, three strikes"). This note is for your team only and is never shown to the customer.
- Click Save. The address now appears in your block list table.
Option B: Directly from an order
If you are already looking at a problem delivery order, you do not need to leave the page.
- Open the order from Orders.
- Click the More menu on the order.
- Select Add to block list. This option only appears on delivery orders.
- Confirm the address shown. The system pulls it directly from the order, so there is no need to search. Optionally, add a note.
- Click Save.
If an order's delivery address is already on your block list, the menu will show Already on block list instead, so you do not accidentally create a duplicate entry.
Removing an address from your block list
- Go to Settings > Ordering > Delivery > Block List.
- Find the address in the table and click Remove.
- Confirm the removal. The system will allow future orders to that address again immediately.
What happens at checkout
If a customer enters or selects a delivery address that matches an entry on your block list, the system will reject their order at checkout with a general delivery error message.
The message does not say that the specific address has been blocklisted. Customers will see that delivery is not available to that address, as they would if the address were outside your delivery zone.
| Scenario | Result |
| Address matches a blocked entry exactly | The system rejects the order at checkout. |
| Address is similar but not an exact match (for example, a different apartment or unit number at the same building) | The system still blocks the order. Blocking applies to the whole street address, not just one unit. |
| Address was blocked at one location, and the customer orders from a different location in the same enterprise | The system still rejects the order. The block list is enterprise-wide. |
Matching ignores capitalization and extra spaces (for example, the system treats "123 Main St" and "123 main st" as the same address).
Troubleshooting
Can I block an address for just one of my locations instead of my whole enterprise?
Not currently. The block list applies enterprise-wide. Once you block an address, no location under your enterprise can deliver to it. If you need this to work differently for your business, submit a request through the Dutchie Help Center.
Does blocking an address cancel any existing orders already placed to it?
No. Adding an address to the block list only prevents future orders from being placed to that address. You will need to cancel or refund any order already in progress separately, from the order's own page.
Will the customer be told their address was blocked?
No. Customers see a generic message stating that delivery is not available to their address, the same message shown for addresses outside your delivery area. This avoids confirming to a customer that you have specifically blocklisted them.
What is the difference between the block list and my delivery zones, cities, or zip codes?
Delivery zones, cities, and zip codes define the areas you deliver to in general. The block list is an exception list layered on top of those areas. It blocks specific individual addresses regardless of whether they otherwise fall inside a valid delivery area.
I do not see the Block List section in my Delivery Settings yet.
This feature is rolling out gradually. If it is not visible on your account yet, reach out to your Dutchie account team or submit a request so the team can check on the rollout status for your enterprise.
