Update and validate your Metrc API Key and License Number to connect to Dutchie POS

Learn how to generate an API key in Metrc, and validate the key in Dutchie POS.

Before you begin

Make sure employees' user profiles in Metrc have the appropriate permissions for their role.

Who can API keys be generated for?

API keys can be generated for an entire organization or for a specific user. 

API keys generated for an entire organization are typically for an admin or owner. 

API keys generated for a specific user allow you to track the actions such as inventory adjustments taken within Dutchie POS and tie those actions to a specific user in Metrc. 

To validate an API Key:

In Metrc:

  1. Log in to Metrc.
    Metrc
  2. From the user dropdown, select API Keys
  3. Click the Generate button.

  4. Copy the API key to your clipboard.

In Dutchie POS:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Metrc.
  2. Paste the key you copied from Metrc into the API Key field. 
  3. Update your license number with the exact license number in Metrc, including the format.

  4. Select Validate Key
  5. From the Validating key for: dropdown, select either Master Key or a specific user.
  6. You should see Success in the relevant areas for your Metrc instance (for example, retailers do not need plants and harvests.)

  7. In the event of failures, go to Metrc and either update the user's permissions or regenerate the API key and then enter the new API key into Dutchie as shown above.
