Apply Dutchie loyalty points in the Register

Dutchie Loyalty program members can redeem their points for cash value or for a pre-configured discount, depending on your loyalty program configuration. This article shows you how to apply points in the Register.

Things to know

  • This article applies to Dutchie's native loyalty program features. You may follow a different process if you use a third-party loyalty integration such as Alpine IQ or Springbig.
  • You need to set up a loyalty program before customers can earn points from their purchases. Click Register for loyalty in the cart header to opt individual customers into your loyalty program.
  • If you have the Apply points to cart automatically setting turned on, all of a customer's available points are applied to their cart automatically, and no action is required. 
  • Depending on your configuration and integrations, customers placing pre-orders online may also be able to apply their own loyalty points, which will be reflected in the Register upon checkout.

Redemption methods

Loyalty point redemption in the Dutchie Register works differently depending on your loyalty program's redemption method:

Apply loyalty as a payment method

If your loyalty program uses the Apply loyalty as payment method (pre-tax) or Apply loyalty as payment method (post-tax) redemption methods, customers can redeem their points as cash back at a rate of $1 per point.

Click the ellipsis (...) button at the top of the cart and choose Apply loyalty.

You can Apply all available points or enter the number of points the customer wants to redeem and Apply entered points. Click Clear applied points to start over.

Total Pts is the customer's total point balance. Available Pts is the maximum they can redeem on this transaction (equal to the pre-tax subtotal or post-tax order total, depending on your configuration).

Note that if a customer has enough points to cover their entire order, including tax, the Register will allow a $0.00 order total. Instruct your staff about the allowable loyalty point redemptions under your local regulations, tax code, and store policy.

If your loyalty program uses the Apply loyalty as payment method (post-tax) redemption method, you can also apply points by selecting the Loyalty payment type on checkout.

Apply loyalty as a discount

If your loyalty program uses the Apply loyalty as discounts redemption method, points can only be redeemed for pre-configured discounts 

First, set up discounts with the application method set to Loyalty and the number of points required to redeem.

To redeem, click the ellipsis (...) button at the top of the cart and select Redeem loyalty.

Then, select an eligible loyalty discount.

The discount’s required point value is deducted from the customer’s total when you complete the transaction.

Online loyalty redemptions

This feature is available now for all Loyalty & Marketing Pro customers.

For orders placed on Dutchie E-Commerce, customers can choose their own loyalty redemptions in the Dutchie E-Commerce checkout.

If your redemption method is Apply loyalty as discounts, customers can choose from a list of eligible discounts (rewards):

Online redemptions will appear automatically in the cart. Click Redeem to apply it to the transaction.

Online redemptions are not supported for locations using the redemption method Apply loyalty as payment method (post-tax). Instead, customers will see their current points balance (or dollar equivalent) and a call to action to redeem loyalty points in-store.

Redeem loyalty points in the cart

The Redeem Loyalty button appears in the cart header once items have been added to the transaction. You do not need to navigate to the ellipsis menu to access it.

  1. Add at least one item to the cart. The Redeem Loyalty button will appear in the cart header.
  2. Click Redeem Loyalty. The loyalty redemption panel opens.
  3. Select the redemption type. Depending on your loyalty program configuration, you may see reward options, a cash option, or both. Cash options display as either pre-tax or post-tax.
  4. Select the reward or cash amount you want to apply.
  5. Confirm the redemption. The discount or cash value applies to the cart.

If you remove items from the cart after redeeming points, reward-based redemptions reset. Review the cart total before completing the transaction to confirm the correct redemption has been applied.
