Break down a package into smaller packages using the Create Package inventory management action in Dutchie POS.
Examples of why you might need to create packages (also called "splitting packages"):
- You receive a package of vape cartridges from a vendor, but some of them are damaged or defective. Because you can't transfer a portion of a package, create a new package for the defective cartridges, then transfer that new package back to the vendor.
- You want to break a large package into smaller packages to distribute to other facilities.
Things to know
- You can't transfer part of a package, which is why you need to split the quantity you're returning onto a new Package.
- Only create new packages in Dutchie, not in Metrc. Packages created in Dutchie are automatically created in Metrc, but not the other way around, so creating new packages in Metrc will cause discrepancies between Dutchie and Metrc.
- This article applies to locations integrated with Metrc, or locations not integrated with a seed-to-sale tracking system. If you're integrated with BioTrack, use the sublot option instead.
- Verify the Grams/concentration value of quantity-based products before creating packages.
- If the multi-package creator feature hasn't been enabled for your location, you'll see an older version of the interface pictured below, which doesn't have the option to create multiple packages at once and doesn't display Cost information. Otherwise, both versions provide the same functionality. Contact Dutchie Support if you would like the multi-package version enabled for your location.
Create packages
- Go to Products > Inventory.
- Click the three dots … next to the package you want to use as your source package.
- Select Create packages.
- Select the Product that the new package(s) will be assigned to.
- By default, this will be the same product that the source package is assigned to.
- To choose another product, uncheck the box for Use same product as source package.
- Enter the Total quantity to package, or the number of units of the selected product you want to create.
- Enter the Number of packages you want to create.
- Dutchie automatically divides the total quantity to package across the number of packages as evenly as possible. For example, if your total quantity is 30 and the number of packages is 3, the system allocates 10 units per package. The weight of one unit is based on the grams/concentration value of the selected product.
- If you don't see this field and want to create more than one package at a time, contact Dutchie Support to enable the multi-package creator feature.
- Cost is pre-determined based on the Catalog value or Calculated based on the combined cost of inputs used to create the source package. Select Other to enter your own cost value.
- Select a Room to assign the new package(s) to.
- Select a Type:
- Standard
- Donation
- Trade Sample
- Enter or generate a Package ID:
- If you’re integrated with Metrc, paste a new Metrc tag number into this field.
- Or, if you only want to create a new package in Dutchie POS that is linked to the source package's tag number in Metrc, you can select Bypass state system and instead of using a new Metrc tag click Generate or manually enter your own package ID, which will only exist in Dutchie POS. Learn more.
- If you’re not integrated with Metrc, click Generate or manually enter your own package ID.
- If this field is grayed out and can't be edited, go to Settings > Location, check the box for Enable Metrc Tag Control, and Save.
Return the inventory to a vendor or transfer to another location
Now that you've created packages for the items you're returning or transferring, create a manifest:
