Convert bulk flower to pre-rolls or pre-packs in Dutchie POS

Convert bulk flower to pre-rolls or pre-packs in your inventory using the Create Packages or Convert features. This article walks you through both options.

You can convert bulk flower to pre-rolls or pre-packs using either the Create Packages or Convert features. This article provides guidance on which option to use in different scenarios.

Before you begin

  • If you haven't already done so, create Catalog products for the pre-rolls or pre-packs you want to create from a weight-based bulk flower package. These products should have Type set to Quantity.
  • Verify the Grams/concentration value of each pre-roll/pre-pack product before converting or creating packages.
  • If you’re integrated with BioTrack, also verify the External category of your pre-roll or pre-pack products before converting. Note that with BioTrack the source and new products cannot have the same external category.

Which option to use?

Consult your state regulators about whether you are required to use a unique external ID for pre-rolls or pre-packs, or if you can use the same external ID for bulk flower and any pre-rolls or pre-packs created from it. Then follow one of the processes below based on your traceability system

Metrc states that allow the use of the same package ID

If your state regulations allow you to use the same package ID/Metrc tag number for bulk flower and pre-rolls/pre-packs:

  1. Create packages or Convert from a source package. The create packages feature allows you to create multiple packages at once. Convert only allows you to create one package at a time. Otherwise, they are functionally the same in this scenario.
  2. For the new package(s), use the same External package ID (Metrc tag number) as the source package.
  3. In the Package ID field, enter or generate your own package ID for the pre-rolls or pre-packs you’re creating. This ID will only serve to distinguish the pre-rolls/pre-packs from their bulk flower source package and will only appear in Dutchie POS.
  4. Check the box for Bypass state system.
  5. Fill in any remaining required fields and click Create or Convert.

For each unit of the pre-roll/pre-pack product you sell, the product’s Grams/concentration (weight) value will be deducted from the bulk flower source package in Metrc.

Metrc states that require a unique package ID

If your state regulations require you to use different package IDs/Metrc tag numbers for bulk flower and pre-rolls/pre-packs, create a new weight-based package in Dutchie POS and Metrc first, then convert it into your unit-based pre-roll/pre-pack product.

First, create a new bulk flower package and assign it a new Metrc tag

  1. Create packages or Convert from a source package. Create packages allows you to create multiple packages at once. Convert only allows you to create one package at a time. Otherwise, they are functionally the same in this scenario.
  2. Use the same Product as the source package.
  3. Use a new External package ID (Metrc tag number) for the new package.
  4. Paste the same new Metrc tag number into the Package ID field.
  5. DON’T check the box for Bypass state system.

  6. Fill in any remaining required fields and click Create.

Then, convert the new package into your pre-roll/pre-pack product

  1. Convert the newly created package into your unit-based pre-roll/pre-pack product. Use the same External package ID (Metrc tag number) as the package you just created.
  2. In the Package ID field, enter or generate your own package ID for the pre-rolls or pre-packs you’re creating. This ID will only serve to distinguish the pre-rolls/pre-packs from their bulk flower source package and will only appear in Dutchie POS.
  3. Check the box for Bypass state system.

  4. Fill in any remaining required fields and click Convert.

The pre-roll/pre-packs you just created now exist as separate package IDs in Dutchie POS and separate corresponding tag numbers in Metrc.

BioTrack

If you’re integrated with BioTrack (regardless of the state you operate in):

  1. Use the sublot feature to create a new lot number in both Dutchie POS and BioTrack.
  2. Convert the new lot number into your unit-based pre-roll/pre-pack product using the same lot number that you just created.
  3. Check the box for No modification to product only if the new product will not require a new lab test. This option carries over the lab test results from the original package to the new package.

Not integrated with traceability

Check with your state regulators about recommendations, requirements, and best practices, especially about whether pre-rolls/pre-packs require a different package ID than the bulk flower they were made from. Use Create packages if you want to create more than one new package or SKU; use Convert if you only need to create one new package or SKU.
