Learn how to enter flower equivalencies, weights, and potencies in Dutchie POS and understand how flower equivalency translates to Mississippi Medical Cannabis Equivalent Units (MMCEUs).

Internal and external Dutchie compliance documentation has been prepared for informational purposes only, and is not intended to provide, and should not be relied on for, tax, legal or compliance advice. Dutchie provides tools that assist in compliance in many optional configurations. Merchants should consult their own tax, legal and compliance advisors to determine how best to configure Dutchie compliance settings and, in general, how best to operate within the cannabis industry.
Before you begin
To ensure MMCEU allotments are properly enforced in Dutchie POS, go to Settings > Integrations > Metrc, select the Settings tab, and set Enable Allotment Check to Yes.
Enter potencies, weights, and flower equivalents for each package in your inventory
To ensure accurate reporting and allotment tracking in Metrc, these key pieces of information must be accurately recorded in Dutchie POS:
- Potency/THC content
- Per-unit weight ("Grams per concentration")
- Flower equivalency
Potency/THC content
Potency should be entered in the Lab results of each package in the THC field.
Enter the value from the lab results as either mg, %, or mg per g.
This value is also shown on the package detail view as Potency.
Per-unit weight ("Grams per concentration")
Every cannabis package including flower must have the total weight of each unit in grams entered in the Grams per concentration field on the package detail.
For example, a package of 1-gram concentrate units containing 100 mg of THC each should have a grams per concentration value of 1, not 100. Do not enter potency in this field.
Flower equivalency
An MMCEU is defined as:
- 3.5 grams of flower; or
- 1000 milligrams of THC in concentrates or infused products.
Dutchie POS uses a similar concept of flower equivalency to track and enforce patient allotments for non-flower products.
| THC content | Dutchie POS flower equivalency | MMCEU |
| 1000 milligrams | 3.5 | 1 |
| 400 milligrams | 1.4 | 0.4 |
| 100 milligrams | 0.35 | 0.1 |
To calculate flower equivalency for concentrates and infused products, use this formula:
(THC content in milligrams / 1000) x 3.5
Enter the Flower equivalency on the package detail for all concentrates and infused products. Leave this field blank for flower products.
Similar fields for Grams/concentration and Flower equivalent also exist at the Product Catalog level. These serve as default values for packages assigned to the product. The package-level values are reported to Metrc and used for allotment tracking.
Update flower equivalencies in bulk
Accurate allotment enforcement and the bulk update process outlined below both depend on accurate THC potency values being entered in Metrc and Dutchie POS. Verify that all THC potencies for concentrates and infused products are correctly entered before following the steps below!
To update your flower equivalencies according to the new rules taking effect July 1, 2025, you can use this workaround to avoid updating each product and package individually.
This requires the optional Product Category Flower Equivalent feature, which can only be enabled for your location by Dutchie support. Go to Products > Configure > Categories, select a category, and verify that you can see the Flower equivalent section. If not, contact support to have this feature enabled for your location.
Once enabled, schedule a time outside your business hours to remove existing flower equivalencies from your Dutchie POS product catalog and inventory and then apply updated flower equivalencies:
- Go to Products > Configure > Categories.
- Select a concentrates or infused product category.
- With the Flower equivalent field blank, click Apply to this location.
- Repeat for all other concentrate and infused product categories.
-
Next, set up automatic flower equivalency calculations based on the state's new rules for your concentrate and infused product categories. This will automatically populate new flower equivalencies for the applicable products and inventory.
Note: Set the Customer type to All, NOT Medical.
- Repeat for each applicable purchase limit category.
Note that creating an automatic flower equivalency calculation does not overwrite any existing flower equivalencies, which is why you need to remove your existing flower equivalencies first.
This calculation will automatically apply to any future inventory you receive.
Track and enforce allotments in the Register
Dutchie POS automatically fetches each patient’s current allotment from Metrc, and automatically reports the flower amounts or flower equivalent purchased back to Metrc. This automation means that as long as flower equivalent values are accurately recorded for each product in your inventory, you can see each patient’s Current Allotment on their customer profile, and their remaining allotment based on items in their cart.
If a sale exceeds the current patient’s allotment, an error message shows you the excess amount in grams and (if you’ve enabled the recommended settings) prevents you from completing the sale until you remove items from the cart so the allotment is not exceeded.
