Understand your app's performance using App Store Connect analytics and learn how to improve visibility with customer reviews.
Things to know
- To view analytics, you must have an Admin, App Manager, or Marketing role in your organization's App Store Connect account.
- An automated in-app prompt is already implemented to ask your shoppers for a review after a positive interaction.
- This guide provides additional, actionable steps you can take to supplement the automated prompts and drive more reviews.
View your app's analytics in App Store Connect
App Store Connect contains first-party data on how users find and engage with your application.
- Log in to App Store Connect at https://appstoreconnect.apple.com with your Apple ID.
- On the main dashboard, click the App Analytics icon.
- If you have multiple apps, select the one you wish to view.
Understand key metrics
Once inside App Analytics, you will see a dashboard with several metrics.
- Impressions: The number of times your app's icon was viewed on the App Store (e.g., in search results, on the Today tab, or on category pages). This tells you about your app's visibility.
- Product Page Views: The number of users who clicked through to view your app's full product page. This tells you how effective your icon and app name are.
- App Units: The number of first-time downloads.
- Sessions: The number of times your app has been opened for at least two seconds. This is an indicator of user engagement.
- Active Devices: The number of devices with at least one session during the selected period. This shows your active user base.
You can filter all this data by date range, source (e.g., App Store Search, Web Referrer), and region to get a detailed picture of your app's performance.
Understand the importance of app reviews
App reviews are one of the most critical factors for your app's long-term success. They directly influence your app's ranking and a new user's decision to download it.
- App Store Optimization (ASO): Apple's search algorithm favors apps with a higher volume of positive reviews. More and better reviews can lead to your app ranking higher in search results.
- Social Proof: When a potential new user finds your app, one of the first things they look at is the star rating and the recent reviews. A 4.5-star rating is significantly more trustworthy than a 3-star rating or an app with no reviews at all.
- Valuable Feedback: Reviews are a direct line of communication from your users. They tell you what they love, and what they want to see improved.
Actively encourage customer reviews
We have already implemented an in-app prompt that asks your shoppers for a review after a positive interaction. This is a great, automated way to capture feedback.
However, to truly build momentum, you can (and should!) actively encourage your community to leave reviews. This "due diligence" can make a significant difference.

- Social Media: Post on your social channels asking your followers for their honest feedback on the app.
- Website: Add a "Download on the App Store" badge to your website that links directly to your app.
- In-Store: If applicable, use small QR codes or signs at your point-of-sale that link to your app's store page.
